white screen

i have a hp with windows 7. can get to my desktop,but when i try to get on a program the screen goes white and i cant do anything except shut down. need help

Well, that is something new for a change. A WSOD and not a BSOD.

Anyway: you annot do anything at all in your OS? Have you tried to boot in safe mode (restart computer and tap the F8 key a couple of times before Windows starts loading). How does it look then? Do you have your W7 DVD ready?

I am what u would call a beginner concerning comp problems but am trying to learn more. I have no clue to what WSOD or BSOD means, but the problem has been fixed. Thank you for your reply.

I´m sorry: BSOD = Blue Screen of Death. It is a geek term
