I have been infected with a keylogger and some other malware on my pc. I tried to activate malware malwarebytes that I previously loaded and it would not open up. I downloaded the latest version of malrware malwarebytes to see if that would help and it won't install the new version. It asks me what program to use to install the program. I also can't use add/remove programs in the control panel. When I tried to click on add/ remove programs. I get the error message "application not found" My firefox browser has been made unoperable but my explorer still works. I hope I have given you enough info to get me started on the recovery road. If not, ask away I will get you all the info I can.
Thanks you guys are the best!

DMJ, I was able to download the OTL program. i am unable to run it. I believe the reason is that the program has an unknown publisher. When i click on the icon and hit run, it asks me what program to open the file with. I have tried various ones with no luck. anything else I can try?

DMJ,
I ran it off of the first link and it flashed the black dos screen. then it showed some processes that were stopped in a note pad window. I could assume to go back to step 1 that you originally stated but i will wait for your instruction to do so.

I see you are running Vuze, Limewire, etc.

I suggest to read the following, and then decided whether you want to keep it or not: http://www.helpmyos.com/learn-security-f40/p2p-programs-t1102.htm

======================

This is a two part processes on OTL. Please do both of them separately, and post both logs.

Please run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following:

    Code:

    :otl
    SRV - File not found [Disabled | Stopped] -- -- (ASKUpgrade)
    SRV - File not found [Disabled | Stopped] -- -- (ASKService)
    [2009/03/27 10:40:51 | 000,000,000 | ---D | M] (No name found) -- C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\9ujw7fip.default\extensions\{E9A1DEE0-C623-4439-8932-001E7D17607D}

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done. Post the fix log. Then, move on to the next part below.

===============================

Please open OTL -- Click None and paste this in the Custom Scans box:

Code:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QB5w8agaB3
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\QB5w8agaB3

Then click Run Scan. It shall launch a log. Please post it in your next reply.

Now to get you off to a good start we will clean your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your restore points, but this is my method:
  • Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
  • On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
  • Click NEXT
  • Enter a name e.g. Clean
  • Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:
  • Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
  • In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
  • Click OK
  • The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
  • Select the More Options Tab.
  • At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
  • Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created, please do the following:
Please download OTC.exe by OldTimer:

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click OTC.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

Note: If any tool, file or folder (belonging to the program we have used) hasn't been deleted, please delete it manually.

==

Please download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start
    button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp
    files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute
    or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

==

Download Security Check by screen317 from SpywareInfoforum.org or Changelog.fr.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Please download the newest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe.com

Before installing: it is important to remove older versions of Acrobat Reader since it does not do so automatically and old versions still leave you vulnerable.
Go to the Control Panel and enter Add or Remove Programs (Programs and Features in Vista/7).
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Uninstall/Remove each of them.

Once old versions are gone, please install the newest version.
