I am running WinXP on my desktop and have Bankerfox.a and Win32/Nugel.E on it. These programs have hijacked my internet access and so I cannot access it, even in Safe mode. In Safe mode, I am now receiving continuous Notices: An IE toolbar Requires Approval, which I am asking to Remove. It pops up almost immediately after closing.

I ran OTL, but cannot save the txt reports. I try to Save As and a Common Dialog error (0x3002) box appears.

I do not have any proxies set.

Here is my HijackThis file:

Now when I attempt to boot up in Safe mode, a message appears saying Keyboard Failure just before the options list appears. This message appears after I have been hitting the F8 button numerous times. I have tried two different keyboards with the same result. If I let the computer boot normally, the keyboard works fine, but I can't do anything, i.e. run HijackThis or the Malwarebytes program. Suggestions?

I've got the keyboard working again and booted the computer in Safe mode. Ran the Malwarebytes program and rebooted normally. I am still receiving a Windows Security Alert and an Antivirus Software alert, along with the hijacking of the browser.

Thanks for your help so far. Any other suggestions?

Hello.
Don't worry about that, we aren't just yet.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste BOTH LOGS back here, use more than one post if needed.

Hello.
Did you have Avira installed at some point in the past? did something go wrong when uninstalling it? DDS shows me Avira is present, but I don't see any of Avira services...

Yes, I was using Avira, but I uninstalled it using the Add/Remove Program. I don't remember anything unusual about the uninstall.

I ran Malwarebyte in Safe mode. It found and quarantined a program: cfcuwl\gxnysysguard.exe. I booted up normally and only received one initial warning. I checked msconfig and found and then disabled gxnysysguard.exe from the startup menu. The warnings have stopped, but IE is still hijacked. I have been looking for sysguard thruout. Are there other names I should be looking for?

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Here is the OTL.txt. Right now I am having trouble finding the Extras.txt. It was not saved to my Desktop. Any other suggestions?

Looking thru the OTL.txt file above, I see this in the Files/Folders:

I believe that I have fixed the problem! I deleted the file noted above: Looking thru the OTL.txt file above, I see this in the Files/Folders:
[2010/01/31 11:08:23 | 000,000,000 | ---D | C] -- C:\Documents and Settings\Gary Baker\Local Settings\Application Data\cfcuwl

I downloaded PCTools Spyware Doctor and ran that scan. It found another program, but unfortunately, I didn't note what it was before I had it delete it. It was in a file named something like phemtv, which I deleted.

I still was unable to get IE working. I went into Tools, Options, Connections, LAN Settings and found that the proxy server was checked and the Auto Detect Settings was not. I reversed those two boxes, applied it and rebooted. Everything seems to be running normally now.

Anything else I should double-check? Thanks for your help.

Hello.

Please run OTL.exe.

  • Copy the commands with file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :OTL
    O33 - MountPoints2\{88836afc-cc2e-11db-8a84-0007e9d43c2e}\Shell\AutoRun\command - "" = E:\svchost.exe -- File not found
    [2010/01/31 11:08:23 | 000,000,000 | ---D | C] -- C:\Documents and Settings\Gary Baker\Local Settings\Application Data\cfcuwl

  • Return to OTL, right click in the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) and choose Paste.

  • Click the red Run Fix button.
  • A fix log in Notepad will appear. Copy the contents of the fix log to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTL.exe
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Thanks, I got rid of all of the Java updates. Just as I did, I received another one!

Does that look like everything is done? We've been using the computer now for over five hours with no hiccups.

If we're done, thanks for your help!
