laptop taken over by virus

My friend's wife went into hotmail n without reading properly she clicked onto a link n got infected by virus n on top of that the virus picked up contacts from her list n forwarded the virus or she forwarded to her cotacts. I have their laptop n it is stuck with the screen with security tool window and i also see it has personal security which i guess both are malwares. In the hotmail it came with msg your credit, acc(s), passwords n other personal stuff are under tape n so on ..........so please help me fix my firend's problem

• Double-click on exeHelper.com or exeHelper.scr to run the fix.
  
• A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
  
• Post the contents of log.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com)
  

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

• Double click and run the installer.
  
• It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  
• After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  
• Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.
  

Thanx for the quick reply but i forgot to ask would it b ok to go online with that laptop as it says everything is being watched or should i download everything u ask to on a external drive n run it onto the laptop

It should be okay, I doubt what the alerts are say is real.

I dont know what happened but laptop just went shut down n now when it is back there is nothing but clean black screen

Sounds like something killed explorer.exe off...

Can you open Task Manager via ctrl/alt/del? If so, open it, then go into the "Applications" tab, and hit New Task...

A Run command like box opens, type in explorer in the open field, hit OK.

Does your icons/task bar load now?

currently i m in safe mode can i do anythng here ?

exeHelper/Hijack This will work fine in safe mode, assuming that malware doesn't mess with them.

seems like its not letting me run the helper in safe mode or the normal mode.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  

Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

this thing is just taking over anything i download n try to run it gives a msg "this app is ifected with worm tryin to steal your credit info n so security tool is stopping it"

Rename exeHelper to explorer and see if it runs when renamed.

thats rite if that is smart we r going to b double smart cool.....to let u know it didnt let me install mbam so i took it from computer n installed it into safe mode n it is le getting installed so i'll get back with that

i m not able to do update in safe mode so i guess go ahead n do the scan ? renaming helper didnt work but like i said i m scaning with mbam

i did run helper and hijackthis but problem is i m still not able to open explorer on the laptop n so nto able to post all the scan results i dont have any flash drive handy or else i can bring it to this computer n post it so pls tell me what to do (every time i tired to open explorer itgets blocked and other wierd things starts happening

full scan for malware bytes finished and it says no malicious items found memory processes or modules

the latest is that after full scan from mbam i did a system restore and just finished helper scan n here is the result

Hello.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 17.
  
• Select the first option where it says "This special release provides a few key fixes.".
  
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
  
• In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u17-windows-i586.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
