Hi there.
I'm new to this forum and was just wondering what these virus' were and if they were actually harmful.

I just scanned my computer using "Avira AntiVir".
Apparently alot of my A00[5numbers].exe and A00[4 numbers].exe are infected with Spy.Gen Trojan.

"C:\System Volume Information\_restore{FE8F5D5B-6D56-4B5E-B008-8F2D45AFA264}\RP22\A0015092.exe
[DETECTION] Is the TR/Spy.Gen Trojan"
Is one of the reports from the log.

Any help on what to do would be greatful.

~Isaac.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Hello.
I don't have a lot of time to answer as it's night time here, but I'm reading up on something to get rid of this issue. For now, lets get an uninstall list.

  • Open HijackThis.
  • When Hijack This opens, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  • Then select "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Hello.

I see that you are running Limewire.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

You are running two antivirus', I see from the uninstall list you have Avira installed, along with AVG. This is a bad idea as they can conflict and cause more problems. I would recommend that you remove AVG to avoid conflict and other future problems.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    AVG Free 8.5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 15
    LimeWire PRO 5.1.3

We need to make a new restore point.

To turn off System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Click the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.

Now we need to make a new restore point.
To turn on System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Click the Turn off System Restore check box (To turn on System Restore), and then click OK.

How is the machine running now?

Thanks for you help so far, i haven't quite finished doing this yet, but i want to know your opinion, AVG or Avira? (I just wanted to see what Avira would pick up, to what AVG picks up.(The reason i have both virus programs))
Cheers.

AVG is heavy on the system and unreliable, see this:

No, this should be fine now. The infection you posted was just an infected restore point.

Oh wow lol.
Thanks for that xD.
Seems to be much slower on start up, but i think that's because the previous owner formatted it so many times. =]
Thanks again.
