I was on myspace and something called wnpc antivirus downloaded onto my computer without me touching anything. I downloaded malwarebytes and tried to do a scan after 20 hrs I aborted it. The computer restarted and when it did the little wnpc shield was sitting on top of the malwarebytes on my desktop. I tried to do a system restore but think the virus overtook it also.......help!!!!!

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

did I do something wrong?

Don't think so.
When DDS runs, attach.txt opens first, then DDS.txt opens.

You posted DDS.txt, so I assume you got attach.txt too?
If not, there's other ways of getting it.

  • Open HijackThis.
  • When Hijack This opens, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  • Then select "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Hello.

That shield next to exe files isn't caused by malware, it's the UAC (User account control) in Vista, it stops you running any exe file without permission from you.

This can be turned off, but I don't recommend it.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Hello.
Please backup your registry first before doing this.

  • Please use the following link to download ERUNT
  • Run the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer.
  • Once instaled, run ERUNT.
  • Don't change the backup location and hit OK.

Note:to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

@echo off
sc delete CLTNetCnService
sc delete LiveUpdate Notice Ex
sc delete LiveUpdate Notice Service
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v Symantec PIF AlertEng
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0}
del fix.bat
exit

Save this as fix.bat, save it to your desktop.
Double click fix.bat and the black cmd window will open and close, this is normal.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.
