Bitdefender update problem

Automatic update of my bitdefender total internet security 2009 is not working for a long while now it always show this message:
An error occurred during the update(Invalid server or proxy settings)

please help!!!

Are you using any proxies for your connection?

seriously don't know much about proxies...how to check??

Uninstall the current version and download the latest version from the bitdefender website. Try updating again.

i have re-installed bitdefender but now update working properly but when i click "scan now" button bitdefender hangs...how to solve this

If bitdefender hangs, there probably is still malware on your system. Wait till the topic in the malware removal forum has been completed and try again.
