Hello,

I believe my computer has ecountered some bad mojo. IE and FireFox will not run. I believe the computer can connect to the internet becuase certain programs update files directly without using a browser. These programs do update OK. Whenever I try to connect to the internet using a browser I cannot. IE will look as if it is connecting and stay at that point forever. Well I gave up waiting after five minutes. FireFox attempts to open and connect but crashes. The Mozilla Crash Reporter opens saying it had a problem and crashed...... I have tried rebooting to no avail. I have also ran Spy Bot Search and Destroy, and Malawarebyte. They found infections and deleted them, but still the problem persists. I will attached the Hijack this log I ran on the computer for you expert analysis on the next post as it says it is too big to send in one email. I have also installed the latest Java and ran JavaRa inaddition to Adobe 9.1. I would appreciate any help you may be able to offer. You guys are the wizards!!!

ATTENTION: VirusTotal is a free service offered by Hispasec Sistemas. There are no guarantees about the availability and continuity of this service. Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware.

They appear to be okay.

MBAM shows a few files as backdoor bots.

Your computer has multiple infections, including a backdoor. A backdoor gives intruders complete control of your computer, logs your keystrokes, steal personal information, etc.

You are strongly advised to do the following:

  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet and from any networked computers until it is cleaned.
  • Back up all your important data except programs. The programs can be reinstalled back from the original disc or from the Net.
  • Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts. If you don't mind the hassle, change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, online groups and forums and any other online activities you carry out which require a username and password).
Do NOT change your passwords from this computer as the attacker will be able to get all the new passwords and transaction records.

Still having problems?

Hello,

Are you saying that I need to format the drive and start over even though the last MBAM showed the system is clean?

descriptionNeed Help IE tries to connect but never does Mozilla FireFox crashes EmptyRe: Need Help IE tries to connect but never does Mozilla FireFox crashes

more_horiz
No, I'm saying the scan you did on your own showed some files that have backdoor powers, in others words, you are being keylogged.
That's why I posted that you should change any online passwords.

So if I change my passwords from a clean computer and backup my documents they will no longer be able to keylog me? Once they are not able to keyog me my IE and Firefox will begin to work, or is there something else I will need to do to restore the browsers?

You may need to just uninstall, then re-install Firefox, as it's probably corrupted by the malware.

IE should be OK then? Thanks for all your help!
