My computer has been having problems for the last week or so. I have tried to use Spybot but every time I run it the same problems come up so they are not being fixed (tinybar.c and smitfraud). Also when I try to update Spybot it says "error retrieving update info file!". Also certain websites wont work. I can not access any of my school websites, or email. It will say there is not internet connection when i try. Also certain programs are running extremely slow such as MS Word. Please help. Thanks.

Hello.
Log looks clean to me, but I want to bring your attention to this:

AV: Norton Internet Security *On-access scanning disabled* (Outdated)

Norton is disabled and not updated. You can't stay safe if you don't keep an upto date AV.
Were gonna uninstall this Norton because it's only a trial I am guessing, so lets get an uninstall list.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Note:
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

Then install Avira.

1) Antivir PersonalEditionClassic
-Free anti-virus software for Windows.
-Detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses. Free support.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts.

When I tried to uninstall LiveReg(Symantec Corporation) it said "Symantec LiveReg cannot be removed at this time because the following applications require this component: Norton Internet Security, Norton Antivirus

When I tried to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2005 (Symantec Corporation) a popup window titled "setup" says "Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

Is there a way to still uninstall them? I did not install Avira because I couldnt get the above uninstalled. Should I install Avira anyway?

Thanks.

I followed your instructions and good news, everything seems to be working perfectly now! All websites and updates are working. One more question. My windows security center says my firewall is off and it recommends I turn on windows firewall for all network connections. Should I do this, or does Avira take care of that? Thanks a lot for all the help!
