Hello.

I strongly recommend you to remove Ask from your computer because it's:

  • Promoting its toolbars on sites targeted to kids.
  • Promoting its toolbars through ads that appear to be part of other companies' sites.
  • Promoting its toolbars through other companies' spyware.
  • Installing without any disclosure whatsoever and without any consent whatsoever.
  • Soliciting installations via "deceptive door openers" that do not accurately describe the offer; failing to affirmatively show a license agreement; linking to a EULA via an off-screen link.
  • Making confusing changes to users' browsers -- increasing Ask's revenues while taking users to pages they didn't intend to visit.
See Here for more info.

If you choose to follow my recommendation then please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • AskBarDis
Then please find and delete this folder in bold (if present):
C:\Program Files\AskBarDis

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines: (all of these may not be present, so just get rid of the ones that are)

    O2 - BHO: AskBar BHO - {201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed} - E:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: Foxit Toolbar - {3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98} - E:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll
    O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.112.39,85.255.112.40

  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.

after i initially ran hijackthis i immediately deleted askbar and foxit toolbar. i then followed your instructions as written. i ran into one snap and that was being unable to update malwarebyte. i also couldn't update spybot search and destroy or avg. so i went onto another pc on my network and it had no trouble updating and obviously i'm connected to the internet. anyway here is the results from running malwarebyte...

    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
