Microsoft rolls out major Windows Live Hotmail updates

A few days ago we announced that Microsoft was finishing up Wave 3 of Windows Live. The Windows Live Hotmail team has announced that it is officially rolling out the last of the Wave 3 updates to all Hotmail customers. So what's being shipped with these updates?

More Storage
Customers now start out with 5GB of storage, but what if you need more? Your storage capacity will automatically increase as you need it. The team hasn't announced what the maximum capacity will be.

More markets get POP3 access
Customers in the United States and Brazil will shortly be given access to their e-mail via POP3. All other Windows Live Hotmail customers will be receiving POP3 access in the coming weeks. Click here for more information on Windows Live Hotmail POP3 access.

Another new feature that is rolling out is "Quick Add". During Steve Ballmer's keynote, there was a short demo showing this new feature. So in case you missed the live stream, here we go.

Advertisements are less intrusive

Been waiting for that on Live Mail.

Wanna bring me upto speed? what the hell is pop3? o.o

It's a application layer protocol where we can use it on desktop mail readers such as Office Outlook, so we do not need to check our mails via internet browser.

pop3 is cool, let see how it works now, are they still in BETA?

Pop3 came out many many years ago, just that it is not introduced in free mail providers like hotmail. Gmail came up with pop3 recently. So, all you might need to do it enable pop3 in your e-mail settings.

Yay! Sometimes the ads get in my way

No more worries now. Well there are so many POP3, IMAP & many e-mail protocol services available. Gmail,hotmail,Aim mail, GMX mail, Inbox.com these are free & there are also paid versions available for example; Yahoomail u need to upgrade to Yahoomail plus to get the full pop3 service for access to Outlook, Incredimail, Thunderbird and others.If u use multiple accounts then u can download a free program called ''pop peeper'' which can notify u of multi emails by providing regular updates/notifications alternatively for firefox u can download an addon called ''simple mail'' which will allow u to read & write mails & also works with multiple accounts too within firefox. Decide what protocol suits ur needs and enjoy mailing.

There's actually a tool to bypass the yahoo's pop3 service.
