Hello,
Not sure what I am doing really, but I would so much appreciate your help. A Windows Security Alert windo is popping up on my computer telling me it has detected unauthorized activity with the Win32.Zafi.B virus noted. I have read a few of the other postings and have downloaded and run the Malwarebytes and hijack this. The Malwarebytes found no infections. Below I am posting from the hijackthis log. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Lets use MBAM since it's already on the system.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Hello,
Thank you for your quick response. I ran MBAM last evening also and it said no infection, however the windows security alert continued to pop up, and I was not able to go to some web sites without a warning. I've run it again now and it says no infections. The security window has not popped up since I've had the computer on today, approx 45 minutes and I seem to be able to move about the internet, even though last nite when I turned off my computer the security window was still coming up.
Below is the MBAM log. Thank you for any advice you have.

Okay, lets find this infection, since it's able to hide from MBAM.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click No for Optional Scan.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

Looks okay, how is the machine?

Nothing hiding? That is fantastic!

Last evening the security alert kept popping up. I am wondering if it was some sort of fake screen? Today, it has not popped up at all. I have pretty much been able to navigate through the sites without warnings today also. I did run spybot also, and it gave me several include errors logs. I am afraid I don't understand how to get to them. They were regarding trojans and malware and malware C.

Again, thank you so much! I will be sure to mention your sight to my friends.

I see you have Adobe Reader version 8 installed on this machine, this is old and has holes malware can use to abuse to re-infect you, so we need to close these holes.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Adobe Reader 8
Then download and install version 9 from here:
http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11.
  • Select the first option where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    - Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
Please make sure the new version of Java is installed before you run JavaRa.

Please download JavaRa from here

  • First, unzip it.
  • Then run JavaRa.
  • Select English from the drop down menu and press Select.
  • This will open JavaRa.
  • Press Remove older versions
  • Press yes to the prompt.
  • It will make a log file of what it's removed.
  • Copy and paste the log back here.
