Old laptop getting slower

Malwarebytes scan is clean. Just an old laptop mainly used for internet browsing and word processing at work has progressively became slower. Just wondering if any abnormalities are seen in log or any suggesstions.

Hello.
I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please make sure Teatimer is disable before we do this, otherwise this fix will fail.


I see you have Viewpoint Manager, this is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

I suggest you remove the program now.

Reboot normally now, see if there is any improvement.

Deleted Viewpoint Manager and Viewpoint Media Player, but could not find Veiwpoint or ViewPoint Toolbar in uninstall list. No real improvement in speed (so far) and the reboot took foever for some odd reason. Here is new log.

Download ATF Cleaner

• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  
• Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
  
• Click the Empty Selected button.

If the laptop is old, chances are it's on it's way out, it probably how a low amount of RAM, etc.
Nothing we can really do, but I'll move this to hardware forum and see what Doc thinks now I've done my bit.

Yeah, unfortunately pretty ancient... 1.00Ghz with only 256 mb RAM. Thanks for your help! Did you cross post to a different area?

Don't think so. I might have done, dunno.
But yeah, 256mb is no where near enough to run XP.
