I am not able to access any Security Websites - avg.com,pstools.com,norton.com.
I have avg free antivirus, but the Anti Virus,Spyware are outdated. Its not able to update it as the system could not connect to the site avg.com.
I can browse through the other websites. When I type in www.avg.com, the IE resolves to
www.avg.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://%20%www.avg.com and gives a page cannot be displayed message.FireFox says that it cannot connect to the site.
I ran a Ad Aware scan and removed some Trojans, but no luck with this. Also this is not current with the recent updates and again this could not be updated.

Have any one faced the same problem.? Please give in your suggestions. Thanks!

Hello.
Bad news.

Your computer has multiple infections, including a backdoor. A backdoor gives intruders complete control of your computer, logs your keystrokes, steal personal information, etc.

You are strongly advised to do the following:

  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet and from any networked computers until it is cleaned.
  • Back up all your important data except programs. The programs can be reinstalled back from the original disc or from the Net.
  • Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts. If you don't mind the hassle, change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, online groups and forums and any other online activities you carry out which require a username and password).

Do NOT change your passwords from this computer as the attacker will be able to get all the new passwords and transaction records.

Due to its backdoor functionality, your computer is very likely to have been compromised and there is no way that it can be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be to do a reformat and reinstallation of the operating system (OS). However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your OS and would like me to attempt to clean your machine, I will be happy to do so.

To help you understand more, please take some time to read the following articles:

Hi,
Hmm hard to Believe this., but got to..

After I ran the ComboFix, I checked and was able to connect to the Sites - avg.com,pctools.com - the sites where I was not able to connect before.I was under the impression that the issue is resolved.
The ComboFix in addition to scanning., did fix something and thats how I am able to connect to the sites.

So even now , Is the issue not solved? Is formatting the only option.?Please advice.

Thanks very much for your time and support.

Hello.
We can clean it, but this machine can never be trusted if you do online banking like Paypal.

Ok ..Thanks!

Can you please let me know the steps to be done for formatting.? If you can share any document, it would be more helpfull.

If I am going to take a backup of files, format it and then copy the backed up files, - is there a chance that the virus/trojan comes back as I am copying the files back?

Just curious and to learn things - Which part of the log file shows that it is affected by a Backdoor Trojan? It has details about some processes and files newly created in one month's time.

Again, thanks very much and appreciate your support!

Yes, your log shows the tdss rootkit, I can take that down no problem, but it's this I was caught off guard by.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\active setup\installed components\{44AA3114-D221-43EC-1C32-1EAC52A2014D}]
c:\windows\system32\msnvl.exe

Google gave me nothing, but we use this to check for backdoor stuff.
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix_ReadMe.htm
(Big document, so if your 56k, beware)

Scroll down to the installed components part right down the bottom.
All of them are known as Poison.Ivy. It's backdoor IRCbot.

Thanks! Can you please reply to my question on backing up files..

ie If I am going to take a backup of files, format it and then copy the backed up files, - is there a chance that the virus/trojan comes back as I am
copying the files back?

Can you please send me any link that has the steps to be done for Formatting?

Thanks very much!

No, the rootkit isn't a file infector, there is no risk to your files.
