Hi all,
I wondered how many of the forumites have upgraded to Office 2007 yet? I have at work (but still use 2003 at home) and I thought I would comment on my experience with it so far.
My first impressions of the upgrade was that there is a lot to like about Office 2007. MS have done away with the old menu system in favour of tabbed toolbars, except for the File menu which remains as the new so-called "Ribbon" menu. I use almost all of the Office suite at work, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and OneNote and the new applications are flashy, but are they worth the high cost of the upgrade?
To be honest, most of the improvements are pretty superficial from a user's perspective. I think that MS have realised this and so have changed the file extensions of the documents produced by their applications. By making a Word document's file extension docx rather than doc for example, they have ensured that if someone upgrades to 2007, others will have to follow in order to maintain compatability. Meanwhile 2007 users supposedly have full backward compatability but in my experience this is riddled with bugs. When editing a 97-03 Word document in Word 2007, many small things have annoyed me no end. The so-called Compatability Mode does things like randomly changing the formatting of bullet points or ordered lists, extending the Headers / Footers by adding in Carriage Returns and failing to recognise Fonts used previously in a document to name but a few. My disappointment in the upgrade continues to grow almost six months after upgrading. :x
I would just like to say here that I am not an anti-MS person. I have been a Windows user for many years and will continue to be in the future. And I love my XBox. :)
Has anyone else upgraded to Office 2007? What are your thoughts on the upgrade?
