Hi guys,

Like many posts that I have read, I too have recently been infected with a number of nasty viruses, Trojans and spyware etc..

I have run a number of AV programs in order to remove them, and have had success in removing the majority (well at least I think so!).

I also have the (backdoor.tidserv!inf) problem and have tried a few different methods of removal - all without success.

I have also had the issue of having my IE7 hijacked, resulting in redirected search enquiries, and non-functioning attempts to run and/or upgrade AV programs (such as AVG and Spyware Blaster).

I have provided the Hijackthis log file below for your reference - please advise if you need me to provide any further information?

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated Smile...

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:
Need help to remove malware/viruses.. Sfxdaw

This will open combofix.exe again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run, it may want to reboot after it's done. Post the resulting log back here.

Hi,

I just rebooted again, and all seems to working ok now Smile...

I am currently running both AVG 8 (free edition) and Norton 360 (paid).

Should i only run with one AV program, and if so which should i stick with?

Also, Should i re-establish spywareblaster as added protection, and could you recommend any other AV, spyware programs that I should use to prevent future attacks.

I reply on my computer and particulalry the internet for my business and income, so this is vitally important!

Thanks so much for you quick responses, and detailed assistance.

This is by far the best support forum I have ever come across - bar none!

Thank You!

I don't mean to have wasted your money, but Norton can lag the system down becuase it's a big program, I'd uninstall it and stick with AVG.
You can re-establish spywareblaster now. Smile...

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. Goofy

1) Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

5) Finally, consider maintaining a firewall. Some good free firewalls are Kerio, or
Outpost
A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. Big Grin

Hi Belahzur,

Thank you again for taking the time to work with me to resolve these issues - I can't thank you enough for your assistance Smile...

I will remove Norton as suggested, and continue to run with AVG and spyware blaster.

I will also set Microsoft updates to automatic to ensure that patches are kept up to date!

As my business revolves mainly around the creation and maintenance of numerous websites (particulalry for Adsense and affiliate earnings etc) is there any way that I can protect myself from attack?

I guess the issue is that I am not entirely sure how and/or where these viruses came from to start with, but i know that in some cases I need to allow cookies so that I can track site visitors as well as affiliate sites track and monitor sales through my links.

I just want to be able to ensure that i can continue to grow and develop my online businesses, but remain as safe and secure from threat as possible.

Would appreciate any advice you can provide?

Thanks Awesome (sparkly)

Malware writers use many ways to infect machines.
Mainly activeX and iframe exploits.

You can protect against both using Firefox with two add-ons, links below.

Oh sorry - I forgot to ask....

Can I remove the folder "_OTMoveIT" from my directory and uninstall the shortcut on the desktop?

I also have a "$AVG8.VAULT$ file on the directory which i'm not sure whether to delete or not either?

Thanks.

Hello.
You can delete _OTMoveIt now.
Don't delete $AVG8.VAULT$ - That's AVG's quarantine folder.
