anyone knows how to make google earth run even without internet connection

GE should work offline however you will only be able to view images that have been already stored in your cashe!

This would mean that you would have needed to be connected before in order to load up the cashe, although i guess it may be possible to load up a data cache from another machine even?

Yes, Google Earth sould be set to cache previous places that you have visited. You can change the size of your cache if you wish so that your PC can remember more places.

I cannot remember how to do this off the top of my head, but when I'm on my main PC I will let you know.
