Using the Internet on a mobile device is a giant leap with today's news that Nvidia Corp. and Opera Software are working together to develop the full desktop Web-browsing experience. This includes the support for JavaScript, accelerated vector graphics and video content to smart phones and mobile Internet devices.
With this partnership, Nvidia will be able to offer an optimized Opera 9.5 browser through pre-integrated, in-house and third party software for the Nvidia Tegra family of computer-on-chip Windows Mobile and Windows CE solutions.
"Speedier Internet access is crucial to any advanced mobile device, and the collaboration of Opera 9.5 and Nvidia Tegra will give the full Web experience within your reach," said Neil Trevett, VP, mobile content, Nvidia. "Opera and Nvidia are working closely to produce a powerful browsing experience that will truly make the Internet an integral part of the advanced Tegra mobile visual computing experience," he added.
"Full Web browsing serves as a major feature among wireless phones and mobile Internet devices now. Consumers are seeking a mobile-browsing experience that reflects that of their home and work computers," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "Opera 9.5 when partnered with Nvidia Tegra will deliver a powerful and visual browsing experience for the next generation of smart phones and mobile Internet devices," he added.
The Tegra family of computer-on-chip solutions integrates high-performance ARM CPUs, extensive media acceleration and upgraded GeForce GPUs that provide Opera 9.5 to give mobile users an enjoyable browsing experience with the following features:
• Support for full desktop Web content with hardware-accelerated rich media, image and in-page video playback;
• GPU acceleration having a smooth, highly interactive panning and zooming browsing with significantly minimized battery use;
• Hardware-accelerated 3D touch browsing experience with Opera integration into Nvidia's OpenKODE-based composition framework using the power of OpenGL ES 2.0.
Devices with the Opera browser powered by Nvidia Tegra hardware will be available in the market by 2009.http://www.eetasia.com/ART_8800543648_499495_NT_0c0a2c22.HTM
