How to Manage Automatic Maintenance Tasks on Windows 10
Windows Automatic Management (WAM) is a process that helps maintain the health and performance of a Windows PC. Maintenance includes keeping Windows and applications up-to-date, checking security, disk optimization or defragmentation and running scans for malware. It’s a built-in feature that runs rather silently in the middle of the night and behind the scenes to keep your system running smoothly. Here is a look at how to run the maintenance tasks manually or change the time when they occur.
1. Open Control Panel and choose Security and Maintenance.
2. Expand the Maintenance section to reveal the Automatic Maintenance options, click the “Change maintenance settings” link.
3. Use the Run maintenance tasks daily at drop-down menu to select the time you want your system to perform the automated maintenance tasks.
4. Click the OK button.
Once you complete these steps, your computer will perform maintenance daily at the time you specified for a maximum period of one hour. However, if you're actively using your device, Windows 10 will skip the schedule and try again at a later time.
If you want to run maintenance immediately, you can click the Start maintenance option within the "Maintenance" section. If you are using your PC at the time, its performance can be slower. If it is, you can stop the maintenance.
