How to Renew Your Computer IP Address in Windows

If you can’t send or receive data, use any network resources, or browse the Internet, the culprit might be a problem with your DHCP server assigned IP address. The simplest way to fix it is to renew the IP address get rid of the old one, and ask the DHCP server to send along a new IP address.

First make sure you are using dynamic ip address that is assigned by DHCP server.

1. Open Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.

2. On the left pane of Network and Sharing Center click Change adapter settings.

4. Select Properties from context menu.

5. Now click on Networking tab and there under "This connection uses the following items" select the option Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv6) if you are using Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and then click on Properties button.

6. On the General tab, the radio button next to Obtain an IP address automatically will be selected if you’re using DHCP server.

In Windows XP, right-click My Network Places, and choose Properties to get to the Network Connections folder. Right click your current network connection, and choose Properties. On the General tab, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and choose Properties. On the General tab, the radio button next to Obtain an IP address automatically will be selected if you’re using DHCP server.

After you’ve confirmed you’re using DHCP, release and renew your current IPv4 or IPv6 address.
