Hello and welcome to GeekPolice.Net My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

Superdave,

Not sure until you reply back if the system is completely clear or not but it's locked up twice since I posted the logs. That last 7 or 8 times its locked up is when I'm watching something on netflix (uses microsoft silverlight) or if Im watching something off the hard drive on the VCL media player. Is there a chance something is conflicting with the media? If so is there a utility I can run to check and see if this is the case or help find the origin or at what point the system locks up?

Update Your Java (JRE)

Old versions of Java have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

First Verify your Java Version

If there are any other version(s) installed then update now.

Get the new version (if needed)

If your version is out of date install the newest version of the Sun Java Runtime Environment.

Note: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Be sure to close ALL open web browsers before starting the installation.

Remove any old versions

1. Download JavaRa and unzip the file to your Desktop.
2. Open JavaRA.exe and choose Remove Older Versions
3. Once complete exit JavaRA.

Additional Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and reboot your computer.

You will need to defrag your hard drive soon. (Do NOT defrag if SSD!) (SSD means Solid State Drive.)

That last 7 or 8 times its locked up is when I'm watching something on netflix (uses microsoft silverlight) or if Im watching something off the hard drive on the VCL media player. Is there a chance something is conflicting with the media?

That could be because the drive needs to be defragged. Did you try using another browser?

Superdave,

I got all of the old java uninstalled and updated to the newest one. I also got the drive defragged and Ill post the log below. I haven't tried a new browser as the last time I was on here I was told to keep firefox updated and use that. I DID NOT run the ESET scanner as I did that before I posted on here, but if you think I should I'll run it again. It's locked up once but that was before the defrag and this is something new, I was watching netflix and it just restarted on its own twice. It's never done that before, but I just finished the defrag and Ill give it a go and see how that goes.

Did you try using IE?
You only have 8.24 Gb of free space. Windows requires at least 15% of your hard drive to operate efficiently. You will need to free up some space until you have 15Gb of free space. You can do this by saving files, videos, music and pictures to an external drive or DVD's. You can also uninstall programs that you no longer use.

I havent tried IE but ill give it a shot and Ill see what I can removed to create more space.

Oaky, so I just got restarted from a lock up again. Strange, it only locks up it seems with Im watching movies on Netflix or on my pc. I was in IE watching netfix and it locked up. As a last resort I thought I might just reformat but at the moment that is going to be out of the question because Ive torn this office apart looking for my windows CD and in the move I must have put the box somewhere and I cant locate it at the moment. I use this PC to store all of my music and back up my apple products so for the time being if I can avoid a reformat and figure out what has brought about this sudden lock ups as they have just started about 3 weeks ago. Im just baffled at the moment.... do you see anything in the hijack this log that I can get ride of (IE: Processes and so fourth) that are running that I don't need?

Hijack this is obsolete. Keep your Windows Task Manager and when you see the CPU spiking, check to see what process is using the most memory.

Dave,

Thank you so much, looks like the PC is health and virus free. I appreciate all of your help. Now I just need to solve the reboot and lock up problem. Many thanks!! You can close this topic, I would imagine for operating system help, the help with the lock up and restart would go in a different forum? If not, is there a utility I can install and run in the back ground that will log what error occurred when a reboot or lock up happens? Maybe see if there is a driver that's malfunctioning or so on?

Some process is using too much memory which is causing the freezing. Using your task manager to monitor which process is using too much memory.
