Scanned laptop with Adware and Malware but can not find the logs. Where can I find them to post.
Junkware log is below. Laptop was running slow but seem a little better. Malware found the 2 trojans.
Is it allright to use IE9 on this laptop, (32 bit, Windows Vista ) or should it be updated to IE10? Also the windows vista needs to be updated and it will not update. Not sure why this is happening.

Hello and welcome to GeekPolice.Net My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.
*****************************************************************
Scanned laptop with Adware and Malware but can not find the logs. Where can I find them to post.

Just do a search for *.txt and you should be able to find them.
Is it allright to use IE9 on this laptop, (32 bit, Windows Vista ) or should it be updated to IE10? Also the windows vista needs to be updated and it will not update. Not sure why this is happening.

Windows will not download any program that your computer can't handle. Remind me again about the update problem.

Download Security Check by screen317 from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

* Double-click Security Check.bat
* Follow the on-screen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
* Post the contents of that document in your next reply.

Note: If a security program requests permission from dig.exe to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

You really should turn on the Windows Firewall. This is added protction.

Go to Microsoft Windows Update and get all critical updates.
*********************************************
Update Your Java (JRE)

Old versions of Java have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

First Verify your Java Version

If there are any other version(s) installed then update now.

Get the new version (if needed)

If your version is out of date install the newest version of the Sun Java Runtime Environment.

Note: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Be sure to close ALL open web browsers before starting the installation.

Remove any old versions

1. Download JavaRa and unzip the file to your Desktop.
2. Open JavaRA.exe and choose Remove Older Versions
3. Once complete exit JavaRA.

Additional Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and reboot your computer.
*******************************************
Please defrag your harddrive soon. That could account for the slowness. Do not defrag if this is a SSD drive (Solid State Drive.)
Did you find the other logs?

Malwarebytes' Anti-Rootkit

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.

  • Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page for performing a scan.
  • Caution: This is a beta version so also read the disclaimer and back up all your data before using.
  • When the scan completes, click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats found and reboot the computer if prompted to do so.
  • Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
  • If there are problems with Internet access, Windows Update, Windows Firewall or other system issues, run the fixdamage tool located in the folder Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit was run from and reboot your computer.
  • Two files (mbar-log-YYYY-MM-DD, system-log.txt) will be created and saved within that same folder.
  • Copy and paste the contents of these two log files in your next reply.

How can I know this is a Solid State Drive? Is there somewhere to go to look?
Also, when I defrag or disc cleanup a computer, it always seems to wipe all info out and I have to go back to default settings. Not sure why it does that. It happened to me twice on a newer computer and my old one.

Just do a search for your laptop. It should tell you what kind of hard drive installed on that laptop.
Also, when I defrag or disc cleanup a computer, it always seems to wipe all info out and I have to go back to default settings.

Defragging a hard drive simply means that it puts all the files on the drive in order so that computer doesn't spend a lot of time search for a particular file or files. Diskcleanup is only supposed to remove temporary files. It should not cause any problems as you described.

I'd like to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan

•Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.

Hi,
Everytime I click on anything like Malwarebytes Root Kit, IE says it cannot display web page. I thought maybe it's the add ons, but not sure which ones to disable. There are 2 Java's with SSL, 2 with something else. Just can't seem to get to the site.

Ran the ESET scan and there was no infections. Messed up with the log, can't find it. But definately no infections was listed.
Seems to be running great except when typing in a website in address bar, it says internet explorer can not display website. That is annoying. please advise

Everytime I click on anything like Malwarebytes Root Kit, IE says it cannot display web page. I thought maybe it's the add ons, but not sure which ones to disable. There are 2 Java's with SSL, 2 with something else. Just can't seem to get to the site. .

Disable all of them and see what happens. You can always enable them later.

That usually indicates that you've typed in the wrong url address.

OK I fixed the IE issues with the Verizon people. Now the only thing left is removing all the scanners I installed. (Malwarebytes, Eset, ect.) Then I think everything is solved. Thanks so much for all your help!

This step will remove all cleaning tools we used, it'll reset restore points (so you won't get reinfected by accidentally using some older restore point) and it'll make some other minor adjustments...
This is a very crucial step so make sure you don't skip it.
Download DelFix by Xplode to your desktop. Delfix will delete all the used tools and logfiles.

Double-click Delfix.exe to start the tool.
Make sure the following items are checked:

  • Activate UAC (optional; some users prefer to keep it off)
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create Registry backup
  • Purge System Restore Points
  • Re-set system settings

Now click "Run" and wait patiently.
Once finished a logfile will be created. You don't have to attach it to your next reply.

Click Start> Computer> right click the C Drive and choose Properties> enter
Click Disk Cleanup from there.

Trojans on Laptop... need clean up Diskcleanup2

Click OK on the Disk Cleanup Screen.
Click Yes on the Confirmation screen.

Trojans on Laptop... need clean up Diskcleanup

This runs the Disk Cleanup utility along with other selections if you have chosen any. (if you had a lot System Restore points, you will see a significant change in the free space in C drive)
