I am implementing an autoresponse scan process for systems that are hit by Malware.

When a system gets an alert McAfee automatically generates a client task to perform a heavy scan

based on tag criteria. This works fine. Now I want to also run a scan utilizing MRT . The quiet scan switches are

mrt.exe /f:y /q. Using Psexec the script remotely runs the scan. So we have 2 scans running in sequence.

My question is:

Can I download the latest MRT from Microsoft and copy the mrt.exe to any windows OS and will it run ?

Or is MRT OS specific in some cases? I just need to know if I can copy this to most of our windows base.

If I can where do I get the latest and greatest MRT?

Please help.

Thanks,

Gregg Dotoli

MRT comes installed in all OS's from XP on up. I don't think it's a good idea to two two scanners running at once.

I'm soory you read this wrong or I wasn't clear. I am running these in sequence first the McAfee and then an hour after the first process is complete, I launch the 2nd MRT scan.
I know MRT is on all windows systems my question is , can I run the latest across all platforms? If a system hasn't been
autoupdated for 1 year, I want to copy MRT.exe to that system, so it will scan with the latest MRT.exe. Superdave,
Can any MRT.exe version run on any windows box?
That is my question

The OS should be updated first.
I want to copy MRT.exe to that system
This should help.

If there are any updates for MRT they should be included in the regular MS updates.
