I can someone help me firefox opens on its own this..maybe its malware?

Hi I am not good with computers and really bad at technology but I need help because I think I have some kind of virus or malware or something on my computer. I have had my laptop a Toshiba Satellite windows 7 for a about a year and a half now, and I use it a lot because I digitally paint commissions. Recently, I have noticed that Firefox has been opening on its own to some weird websites and adds I have never seen before. Also sometimes when I am on Firefox which is my main browser it would open up extra windows to these adds and sites, I don't remember them specifically but some are adds like PC fix etc. and some just are like sponsor pages. This has been going on for about 3 weeks and I thought Firefox was just the issue until Google Chrome did the same thing this morning so now I think I may have some malware or virus. I have avast and did a in depth scan that found nothing infected, but I know something is wrong because I feel that when loading my computer it used to be a bit faster and these windows are opening in my browser. So please help if you can? can this be fixed?:sad: :sad:

Download OTL to your desktop.http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe

Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.

Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Under Custom Scan copy and paste the text from the code box.




Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the

same location as OTL.
Please copy  the contents of these files and post them with your next reply.If the text is to big,zip it up or post it in two or three parts.

Thank you but I run a in depth scan with avast and it did found I had some kind of virus or infected files and gave me the option to delete them so I did so far there no pop ups but should I still download from the link you provide just in case or try it when I see more pop ups?

Yes I am, Ive scanned with avast and thought it was gone but then a extra tab pop open today when I was online, the bowers have not opened by itself yet but this extra tab opened with the words sponsorship and that's it. I did as I was told above but I can't seem to copy and paste text I got from the scan, the site says its too long.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

You can do a search on-line for the model number of your computer and you will get this information about the hard drive. I seriously doubt it is a SSD. After you get this information I can help you with the defrag.

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your DESKTOP.
If your version of Windows defaults to you download folder you will need to copy it to your desktop.

My computer does not have a SSD hard drive so its ok to defrag.

• Download RogueKiller on the desktop
  
• Close all the running programs
  
• Windows Vista/7 users: right click on RogueKiller.exe, click Run as Administrator
  
• Otherwise just double-click on RogueKiller.exe
  
• Pre-scan will start. Let it finish.
  
• Click on SCAN button.
  
• A report (RKreport.txt) should open. Post its content in your next reply. (RKreport could also be found on your desktop)
  
• If RogueKiller has been blocked, do not hesitate to try a few times more. If really won't run, rename it to winlogon.exe (or winlogon.com) and try again
  

Hi Dave, I think I can look up doing it on windows but is there anything really wrong found on my laptop because the weird pops are not happening anymore.

Hi I did the scan and it took about 5 hours to scan everything on my computer and when it was finished it said no threats found but it didn't show any back buttons or a way for me to get the list or a text file all it had was the number of files scanned, threats were 0 and a finished button and that's it.

Ok, if there are no other issues, we can do some cleanup.

To uninstall ComboFix

• Click the Start button. Click Run. For Vista: type in Run in the Start search, and click on Run in the results pane.
  
• In the field, type in ComboFix /uninstall
  

(Note: Make sure there's a space between the word ComboFix and the forward-slash.)

• Then, press Enter, or click OK.
  
• This will uninstall ComboFix, delete its folders and files, hides System files and folders, and resets System Restore.

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created do the following:
Double click OTL.exe.

• Click the CleanUp button.
  
• Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  
• If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  
• The tool will delete itself once it finishes.
  

Note: If any tool, file or folder (belonging to the program we have used) hasn't been deleted, please delete it manually.

Click Start> Computer> right click the C Drive and choose Properties> enter
Click Disk Cleanup from there.



Click OK on the Disk Cleanup Screen.
Click Yes on the Confirmation screen.



This runs the Disk Cleanup utility along with other selections if you have chosen any. (if you had a lot System Restore points, you will see a significant change in the free space in C drive)

You may keep those programs and use them on a regular basis to keep your computer. You will need to update MBAM every so often.
