Codec v class?

A few months ago I downloaded microsoft works and I believe I downloaded a virus of some sorts while doing it.

I lost the user I was on and all my windows updates and many other programs.

I updated windows and have since found my documents from the lost user, however, as mentioned in a previous thread, I am seeing ads not by facebook and words are underlined on websites linking to ads.

My internet browser is often non resposnsive ect.

When I have looked in add ons and toolbars there is codec v class which I cannot disable and after much googling I think this is a virus and is probably what is causing my problems??

I downloaded some pc doctor software which told me I had 19 infections mainly regarding adware/hot bar but unfotunately, although this software said it was free, I would have had to pay for the threats to be removed and it did not pick up anything saying codec v class.

I have seen a previous thread regarding this but it was a little too complicated for me to follow and I would much appreciate any help you can give me.
