Web Hosting and domain names

Hi,
I've got a question about web hosting and domain names.
I've read on some forums about buying the domain name separate from the web host
I would like to know your thought on that one?
And also I'm trying to find a web host for my personal website which is small in MB size, suitable to use a .com.au domain name.
Just a bit sketcthy on many other things that are needed.
I've been using joombla to build a website and would like to keep doing so.
I would like to know if anyone knows of a web host, a good reliable one. Which is.... I guess you'd say compatible with joombla files? Hopefully that makes sense.

Still learning the computer talk, hopefully you can understand what I mean.

I am with a WebHost that is extremely dependable for about 4 years now. They have many hosting plans, and sell Domains as well (you don't need to buy hosting to buy a domain, they are sold separately).

However, it is sometimes recommended if you buy both from the same provider, as they give you support with DNS issues and such if ever you need it. Please feel free to contact me privately if you would like to discuss this further.
