acpi isnt compatable

Hello,
I have an old HP Pav 7920. It had win me . It kept saying to upgrade OS, so I put xp home on it. It was working fine going through all the updates until I shut it off. The next morning I tried to turn it on and it says acpi isnt compatable. So I'm guessing BIOS upgrade. Now it wont let any win OS load up and I cant get any Bios update. I am using Linux on it now to try to solve this problem. I am new to Linux, not sure how to download Bios upgrade in Linux and get it to download windows style.

With a machine that old I have to suspect the hard drive. See if you can boot it to the XP install disk. If so, select the repair option and run chkdsk.
