Hi guys, Im 42 and a keen guitarist. My laptop is a dell inspiron 1525 which runs vista 32 home premium, which ive since found out doesnt have stereo mix or what u hear I own a line 6 pocket pod which i used to use with a desktop pc ,which ran xp home professional and had an audigy 1 soundcard , I could record my guitar tracks onto a recording studio program called ntrack 6 easily. Since acquiring the inspiron laptop, this process has been fraught with problems.
If I try recording using a non asio reliant program like audacity , the lag and sound quality are dreadful beyond belief. If I use ntrack6 which is asio reliant, it just flat out doesnt work. I watched a youtube clip claiming steromix COULD be enabled on vista 32. It directs you to realtek website and you download a new driver , R266 which is a new driver for 32 / 64 vista or windows 7. Only snag is that the inspiron 1525 uses a sigma tel soundcard which is the biggest piece of junk ive ever come across.
I simply wish to load a backing track into a recording program, connect a guitar to the guitar in on the pocket pod, connect guitar out to line in on the inspiron and hear the playback & recording thru active monitors connected to the headphone out on the inspiron.
Its so simple, but using vista 32 has made the process a headache. Opening up the recording tab in the speaker icon only gives me the sigma tel sound card , no stereo mix or what u hear. Im assuming I cant use the realtek R266 driver with the sigma tel high definition audio codec ?
What can I do to simply record my guitar onto my laptop ? The sigma tel is junk, the lag is off the scale , I cant get stereo mix or what u hear and the vista 32 on the inspiron 1525 is making the task a complete nightmare.
PLEASE HELP, before I throw the laptop through a window.
