I'm not even sure where to start with this issue. I guess my first noticeable issue was AV8Scan. When ever I got that message I just shut down the browser, waited a while and re-opened my browser. It generally created no issue other than occasionally popping up. I decided I would try to remove it from my system. Mistake #1 so far. I downloaded "Spyware Doctor" and from that point on my desktop has turned into mush. There are many files/programs I can no longer enter I get an error message "File System Error (-1073741819)" I cannot get into the control panel unless I use Explorer and most of the icons will give me that error message. My internet is slow beyond belief. I think dial-up might be faster. I have tried a couple of different ways to delete the Spyware Doctor program but with no luck. I did try to re-install windows but only succeeded in installing a second Windows. I was hoping to reinstall Windows over the original Windows in hopes that it would fix any corrupted files.

My operating system is Windows Vista (SP1)

Any guidance would be most appreciated. I attempted to download Hijack so I could get a log of the mess but that is a no go ??????

Hello.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Believe it or not it took me well over an hour to send the email from my laptop to my desktop, attempt to download only to get the same error message.

"File system error (-1073741819)"

The desktop is running extremely slow and obviously cannot download and run anything. Any other ideas ?

Again just for your info I am working right now from a laptop. The desk top is the problem child.

Hello.
Lets try OTL via a boot disc.

We are going to be using a Windows Recovery Environment to help disinfect the system so it may boot again.

Download the OTLPE Standard REATOGO Windows Recovery Environment.

  • Place a blank CD-R disc in to your CD burning drive.
  • Download OTLPEStd.exe and double-click on it to burn to a CD using ISO Burner.
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
  • When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
  • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start. Change the following settings

  • Change Drivers to Non-Microsoft
  • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
  • When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\_OTL\MovedFiles
  • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
  • Please post the contents of the OTL.txt file in your reply.

If I click on [b]"My Computer" it tells me No Windows installations found. If I click on any of the other choices it says "Target is not Windows 2000 or later" Did I do something wrong ?

It appears that I have resolved the problem. I was unable to delete the "Spyware Doctor" program through the control panel but one of the programs on the Reatogo disk allowed me to get into the control panel and delete it. I have tried many of my installed programs and they all seem to be working now. My only issue now is that I have a second Windows installation on my recovery disk. Any advice on deleting that without effecting my original Windows ???
