operating system windows xp sp 2
i am unable to connect to irc in windows.
but when i log into ubuntu on the same computer. i am able to connect to the irc all right.
i have tried different clients. but none is working.
i have tried pidgin, hydra irc, chatgilla
they say socket error 100060. attempt to connect timedout without
establishing a connection.
i tried to scan with malware bytes. but malware bytes fails to update. and i tried to scan inspite of lack of update. and my outpost firewall
free tells during the scan that MBAM.EXE is trying to modify a critical object C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT. i didnt know if to allow that or not.
even spybot is not updating well. it says bad checksum.
i scanned with super anti spyware. it updated ok. but it found no virus except some adware tracking cookie which i removed.
i tried to install sysinternals root kit revealer but it says "cannot install rootkit revealer access is denied". it also did not allow installation of true crypt. i dont know if that is relevant or not.
i have clamwin antivirus. i scanned it showed no virus etc.i dont have avg , avast or avira because after a few days they stop working unless you buy a pro version. something or other thing goes wrong. and they stop working.
what should i do. should i allow that mbam.exe to modify autoexec.bat and finish its scan. how do i make sure that the anti virus software start working again. do i uninstall them in some way. and then download again from net and rename them to something else and install them. i have also tried to uninstall pidgin using revo uninstaller. but it says it could not find any registry entry. all this is too much for me. ia m unable to process all this in my brain. i am totally confused. give me some pointers and tell me what to do. thanks in advance.
ok as i am writing. this malware bytes has finished its scan without me allowingor blocking it to modify autoexec.bat andit detected terms
c:\windows\system32\termsrv.dll memory module, file, and registry key
but google search landed me on ~[Filtered]~
which says that it is a false positive. that it is some patched up file.
