Hi,

My computer was running slow and playing videos really choppy so I restarted it. I forgot that I had an iPod touch charging and while it was restarting it just froze. I left it like that for about 10 minutes then unplugged the itouch. It still was frozen, windows wouldn't start up so I hit the power button to restart it. Si it took me to a screen that said to launch startup repair (recommended) or start windows normally. I choose the repair option but it just said it was loading files then went to a blank screen with a white pointer. It did nothing after that. So I restarted it again and tried to run it in safemode, it took me to a blank screen again and never loaded. I then tried to choose the option that says to go back to last good configuration, it did the same thing with the blank screen and never loaded. I felt I had no option but to reinstall windows, so I rebooted with the windows 7 dvd, hit F12 and choose the cd/dvd drive to load. It said windows loading, then took me to the blank screen and nothing ever loaded up. I have no idea what to do next. Please help.

Do I do that 6 times even if it just takes me to a blank screen? I follow the instructions on that page and choose the startup repair option and it just takes me to a blank screen with the white mouse pointer. How long do I let it stay on the blank screen? It never takes me to anykind of menu or anything.

Hello,

Try doing a System Restore. Follow the Method 2 in the article http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Ok, I tried doing a system restore and it's taking forever to load or do anything. The only option I had any luck with was inserting the Windows 7 dvd and running that. I got as far as step 5, where it wants you to select which operating system you want to restore and the click on Next, but it never loads an operating system in the box or allow me to select next. It just has that blue circle with the light spinning around it, like it's loading something but it never loads or lets me click next.

One last try with this article http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html if that fails i'm afraid you might need to do a Clean Install.

I'll try that last article and report back if it works or not. What is a clean install? If nothing works am I looking at a hard drive problem or something. That's my best guess.

Ok, it didn't work. After I selected install now it's stalled on the setup is starting screen. I'm beginning to think it's a hardware issue, either the hard disk drive or the motherboard. This sucks.

Run a Hardware Diagnostic (Memory and Hard Drive) follow this link for instructions http://captaindebugger.wordpress.com/hardware-diagnostic/

Hi, this problem is common in the computer world.

If you have time, try to unplug your Hard Drive and visit your friends. Ask them if they can plug your hard drive in their computer and check if it works. After that step, use friend's PC to check your hard drive for Errors (Right click on partition > Properties > Tools > Error Checking and lick Check Now..) and perform Disc CleanUp! If you don't have some important things on your HDD, just perform Format.

Also, i suggest you to reset BIOS configurations to Default by choosing Load Optimized Defaults in your BIOS screen.

Thanks.

I ran a memory diagnostic program that I burned to a cd, memtest86, no problems with that. However I'm having a hard time successfully running a hard drive diagnostic program, I tried ESTool and ESTEST and neither of them ran successfully. Any suggestions?

Nazzgull,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that would be comfortable enough with computers to allow me to put my hard drive into theirs. I do have a desktop pc, could I do the same with that one, if so how? Or is there a program I could download and burn that would allow me to do the disc cleanup or format the hard drive. BTW it's my laptop that is having problems if that helps any, Thanks.

Yeah, sorry I forgot to write it down earlier but I tried running it again. For both it sait can't open CD driver, your RAM drive is loaded at C: Out of memory error Bad command or file name.

I just found out I have a Hitachi hard drive and I'm going to try the one listed under Hitachi on that article you provided.

Ok, I downloaded DriveTest and burned to a cd but it's giving me 4 options to choose: 1- for Adaptec 2- for LSI 320 Controller 3- for Tekram & Sybios Controllers 4- for ATTO 320 Controller. I'm not sure which option to choose. My hard drive is a Hitachi HTS543216L9SA00

Thanks again.

It has stalled on me again. It is stuck at the part that says loading DFT. So it hasn't even loaded the program fully. It's been like that for about 20 minutes now. Is it safe to now say that my hard drive is faulty? I'm really just want to do a successful diagnostics so I can know where to go from here. Do you know of any other options? Thanks.

You can not attach laptop HDD to desktop. I know HDD Regenerator but it's not free, that software could fix your damaged HDD without problems.
I'm sure you have HDD problems. If you have some money, you should by new one and stop thinking about problems and crashes.

Ok, I am in need of help again please.

So I remembered I had a broken laptop laying around, the ac power jack was broken but the hard drive was fine. So I installed that hard drive into my newer laptop and proceeded to install Windows 7 on it. I think I forgot to delete the old version of windows xp off of it, or delete that partition. I just started to use the laptop with windows 7 abd installed the browsers I use, antivirus, spyware detection programs, all that good stuff. And it's saying i only have 10 gb of space left. So my question is how can I delete that older version of windows and partition without causing any damage. Thanks

Hello,

Is the XP on a different Partition i.e.C drive and D Drive ? Or one the same Partition ?

Oh, it looks like it's on the same one

descriptionWindows 7 won't start up EmptyRe: Windows 7 won't start up

Whoa ! That would be a problem. Well to be honest it's best to clean everything then install Windows 7 again. Because it might be a big mess to remove them separately. Also if we remove the wrong file it might stop windows from booting again.
