A friend of mine is running into an issue in which he is unable to connect to the internet. My first attempt at fixing the situation was by installing Malwarebytes, how ever the program closes after running approximately two seconds. I started off by reading this link and am able to produce a Hijack This log and System Look log.
What little information I can give is that he was using LimeWire (uninstalled before compiling the logs) and recently complained about not being able to connect to the internet. I was able to install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware via a flash drive. The program would run the first time, how ever when prompted to scan, it will run for about two seconds before closing. The next time I attempted to load the program, I received the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I checked all permissions and still received the error. I attempted this again after booting the system into safe mode with no networking, only to receive the same results. The current 'anti-virus' program he has loaded is an out of date / unregistered copy of Defender Pro 5-in-1 which I'm unable to uninstall. From what I can tell, there are no other signs of another anti-virus / anti-malware program on his system.
