My IE windows and applications such as iTunes have been opening/closing/running much slower over the past couple of weeks. When I am on myspace, I get a pop up stating, "Your personal computer needs to install antivirus software!" I close the box then click back and luckily it takes me back. I have run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and deleted everything it detected. But I still have the problem. My Adobe and Java are updated.

Here is my HijackThis File:

Hello.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet Explorer and/or in FireFox.

    In Internet Explorer
  1. Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

    In Firefox
  1. Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"
  2. Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Hello.

Next, Gg to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    Viewpoint Media Player

Please run OTL.exe.

  • Copy the commands with file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :OTL

O28 - HKLM ShellExecuteHooks: {4F07DA45-8170-4859-9B5F-037EF2970034} - Reg Error: Key error. File not found

  • Return to OTL, right click in the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) and choose Paste.

  • Click the red Run Fix button.
  • A fix log in Notepad will appear. Copy the contents of the fix log to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.

I already removed all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created in the last step.

My computer seems to be running the same. I'll let you know after more browsing so I can tell if it's any better. Just earlier today I had that pop up "Your personal computer needs to install antivirus software!"

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hey! My computer is running well, just not as fast as my friend's computers. I did have an error with my Adobe Flash Player 10. And sometimes, I'll open up a website that uses Adobe Flash Player 10 and the page will close automatically. I did a search for "Flash" on my computer and about 100 flash players popped up. It was the exact same entry. Not sure what that means. I was searching for it so I could click on it and try to update it. Any advice? Thanks so much for your help thus far.

I am using Internet Explorer 7 Version: 7.0.5730.13

Hello.
Please download and install the newest flash player anyway, just in case yours is outdated.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
    Link 2

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    Slow computer CF_download_FF

    Slow computer CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    Slow computer Cf410

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    Slow computer Cf510

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Also, I was wondering if I should try to delete my Flash player and download it again? The only thing is I cant find my Flash player, and when I searched for "Flash" on my computer, I got 10,520 files with the name "Flash" in them.

Flash player -

Try upgrading IE7 to IE8, but really you should give Firefox a try, it's just so much easier than IE.

I'm having a very difficult time trying to figure out/find how to get Flash to work for FireFox. For example, www.youtube.com does not play videos in FireFox, so it told me to download Flash and make sure JavaScript is enabled. I checked and I have downloaded the new version of Flash probably over 5 times in the past couple of days. And I checked and JavaScript is enabled. Why does it still not work? thanks
