Unable to use Standby Option

hey guys.
i recently reformatted and reinstalled windows (XP).
everything is now working fine..

except for the fact that i am unable to put my computer into standby mode.

when i go to start turn off computer the menu loads up and there is only turn off and restart available.

is this normal? or easily solved?

I think this is normal, this used to happen to me too. After using it for a while, the standby button should be back there.

since reinstalling windows it also has no information about the battery (or UPS in this case). so there is no option to enable or disable hibernation..

so to the best of my knowledge the bios isnt recognising the software?

Before we go to the BIOS, do you have the latest version of the Windows Service Packs? Also make sure that you have all your drivers installed.

yeah im running service pack 3.
and im quite sure i have all the drivers installed. on the cd (drivers and utilities) that came with my computer im pretty sure i installed everything.

Hmm... That's strange. What is the brand and model number of your computer?

yeah when i saw the option i thought it was a bit strange too. but everythings working fine (except the standby).

its a dell vostro 200. desktop.
