Hi
I just finished cleaning up one laptop (THANKS to the geekpolice) and now...
I installed and ran Spybot S&D on my Dell I 5150 WinXP Pro SP3 machine just to be protective and sure enough, after the first scan "Trojan.Vundo.H" showed up. I ran the cleanup tool in SB and it said it would clean it on reboot. It then went into continuous reboot mode. I thought it was a SB issue and so i uninstalled Spybot, d'loaded and ran Malwarebytes A-M. It too, found virtumonde and said it would clean it on reboot. I ran "rkill.com" first to terminate the processes, THEN MBAM again and it keeps finding it, telling me it will clean on reboot, and then it finds it again on re-scan.
It just won't go away.
Here is the post of my last MBAM log from Thursday (took a break since then Suspect :

I bet the file is locked, that's why MBAM is having trouble shifting it.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
    Link 2

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

Vundo trojan won't leave laptop CF_download_FF

Vundo trojan won't leave laptop CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

Vundo trojan won't leave laptop Cf410

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

Vundo trojan won't leave laptop Cf510

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Combofix is being updated - the link leads to a warning NOT to use it.

Any other programs that can be used with the same results?
thanks

Does Combofix alert you of Virut?

descriptionVundo trojan won't leave laptop EmptyRe: Vundo trojan won't leave laptop

i never downloaded combofix- the link said do NOT download or use combofix until the issues were worked out. so i did NOT use it...the only thing i've done is as posted in the thread above...

Ah, our warning message? Yeah, Combofix is very powerful, hence why we are using it here. Using Combofix on any infection sometimes leads to bad results if the infection has caused a lot of damage. I've checked your log here, this infection is an adware infection, but slightly more advanced because it has a hȋdden driver locking the file. Combofix will shift that.

where can i download combofix? both those links are telling me NOT to use combofix at all until it's fixed....

Sorry, something has gone wrong in Combofix and it's been pulled for now. Sometimes between my above post, and your post there, Combofix was pulled.

We can still go hunt for this malicious driver.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: HERE

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Drivers to disable:
jxfjmdwc

Drivers to delete:
jxfjmdwc

Files to delete:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\jxfjmdwc.sys
c:\windows\system32\kdxskik.dll

Registry keys to delete:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{0f63272d-2cce-4abc-939e-23b27513652a}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\jqoqmjxf

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Hello.

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet Explorer and/or in FireFox.

    In Internet Explorer
  1. Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

    In Firefox
  1. Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"
  2. Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
