Hi there!

I am new to this forum so would be grateful for any help!

I am running Vista
Am using Google Chrome but have also tried IE to see if both have the same problem - they do!
I am connected fine wirelessly to my router and can connect and use windows messenger live with no probs.
However my connection to IE and Google chrome can be sporadic and I find myself rebooting regularly to get a connection, which doesnt stay long.

I have read a couple of other threads which suggest wunning Winsock XP Fix, it comes up with an error though saying
'Registry Import Information not found'
i 'ok' that and it comes up with 'repair complete, please reboot immediately after. However before I do this it comes up with 'Run time error 53. File not found' I have rebooted but still have the problem

I have also tried the CMD prompt suggested in another thread but it says it needs 'elevation' or something like that

If someone could help with this I would be grateful!

Oh, I also run zonealarm and SpyDoctor however this was happening before I loaded spydoctor.

Many thanks
Victoria

Hi again,

Thank you for that....

It seemed to work ok for the first few hours (maybe coincidence?) and is back to normal now... msn ok but cannot display pages on chrome or IE...

Anything else you could suggest?

I have seen this about the Zone Alarm- an update that it did caused problems, since I do not use it- I cannot speak for myself but have heard that some update or new download affiliated with that program caused internet to go haywire.

Hello,

Please download RenewMyDNS by DragonMaster Jay.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  • Choose a location to save extracted files and keep pressing Next until Finish.
  • Double-click RenewMyDNS folder, then double-click RenewMyDNS.bat to start the program.
  • Follow the prompts, and when finished it will launch a log.
  • Post that log in your next reply.
  • After posting the log, delete the folder RenewMyDNS.

Download a zip file with the patch,
registry file, and instructions by going here:

http://www.ausconnect.net/files/sp2connectivityfix.zip

1) Download the patch from Microsoft's site
2) Run the update to install it
3)
Run this short Registry fix to complete the update. Type the following
lines in Notepad and save the file as FixReg.reg on your desktop, then
double click on it to install into your registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSec]
"AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule"=dword:00000002

4) Reboot your computer

If
you experience the error message again, reboot your computer first. In
most cases this will solve many connectivity issues that are not
associated with this SP2 bug.

Microsoft patch (KB884020):

Hi again, I tried to install the patch but it says it doesnt work with the version of windows I have installed (it seems that one is for XP when I have Vista)

If Zonealarm is a possible problem, can you suggest an alternative firewall that is free that I could install instead?
