Avira

Avira is no longer updating, I tried to uninstall and re-download it, but it no longer showing on the add/remove programs list anymore, and I am worried there may potentially be a problem.

• When Hijack This opens, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  
• Then select "Open Uninstall Manager"
  
• Click on "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  
• Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Double click fix.bat and the black cmd window will open and close, this is normal.

Now delete this folder in bold:
C:\Program Files\Avira

Then post a new Hijack This log.

It wont let me delete the Avira folder, it says access denied.

Run them, then see if Avira is still present.

It is still there for some reason.
I try to delete it and it still says access denied. The Avira icon is still in my tray.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop

• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
  

2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

C:\Program Files\Avira

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

• Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  
• Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  
• Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  
• Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
  
  The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  
  
• It will Restart your computer.
  
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
  

4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Will this fix the update problem?

Well I saw you also had AVG on the machine, so I thought you switched to that when you uninstalled Avira.

Do you use AVG now?

I do use AVG only because Dragon Master Jay told me Avira isn't going to work on my computer. The first thing I did when I got that computer was uninstall AVG and get Avira. I'd choose Avira over any anti virus. But it just wouldn't update.

Ah, well try re-install Avira again now.

I tried and it installed. I can't update though, same message. "An error occurred during the file download."

EDIT: My firewall was blocking Avira's output. I fixed it.
