Total security attacked my system last night. I read your directions so far and have updated java/adobe and downloaded hijack this and am sending those results. I am assuming that you will tell me the next thing I should do. THANK you so much. This is the first time I've gotten a virus and I am running McAfee which still does not detect anything wrong with my system. Do I still keep the Malware and run that as well... as you can see I am a bit ignorant since I guess I've been so lucky til now... valorie

Hello.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TS] C:\Program Files\TS\tsc.exe

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

well, I used "Hijack this" and found and deleted the line you asked me to. Then I scanned with Malware. I neglected to copy the memo by mistake. so, I restarted my computer But total protection was still there in my programs list! So I tried the whole thing again. The line you suggested was no longer there but , the malware screen comes up and disappears. After several tries (and downloads ) sometimes it lets me click Scan and then disappears, sometimes it disappears sooner...The icon is there but it is not working. Now what do I do?
I so appreciate your help, !

Lets go a bit deeper.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
    Link 2

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

Total Security- trying to uninstall CF_download_FF

Total Security- trying to uninstall CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

Total Security- trying to uninstall Rcauto10

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

Total Security- trying to uninstall Whatne10

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

I am working from my desktop due to the issue below:

I clicked on Link 1 and combo fix appeared and then disappeared. There were some screens about combofix and then...

I am now looking at the following screen:
Warning:
Combofix has detected the following real time scanner to be active:
anitvirus: Total Protection service
Anitvirus and intrusion prevention programs are known to interfere with comboFix's running. This may lead to unpredictable resulsts or possible machile damage.

Please disable these scanners before clicking "OK".

this was as far as I could get... Should I be buying something to fix this at this point. I hate downloading so many programs. I feel more vulnerable than ever!

Don't worry, Combofix is extremely powerful and requires all AV protection to be disabled; did you disable Mcafee correctly?

descriptionTotal Security- trying to uninstall EmptyRe: Total Security- trying to uninstall

more_horiz
no... I didn't realize I had to disable it... and don't have the directions, do I?

descriptionTotal Security- trying to uninstall EmptyRe: Total Security- trying to uninstall

more_horiz
Read my instructions carefully, there is a link to another forum that has a compiled list of different AV's and instructions on how to disable them.
