Hello,
First I'd like to thank you for this incredible service. I spent all day today trying to figure out why my processes box in the task manager was so overloaded with .exe processes and finally the attacker acted up again with a pop up saying I had to dowload the personal antivirus or computer doctor software and that is how I found you.
I did what you instructed in the How to remove Personal Antivirus (delete guide) and it all worked wonderfully. after running McAfee, Singer and God knows what else without them finding anything anywhere...I did, I did the Malwarebytes' trick and it found 5 files that got deleted in a breeze.
My issue is, the task manager is still showing a ton of active processes which the more I research, the more I find seem to be connected with both infections on the title of this post.

I downloaded HijackThis and here are the results of my log:

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Wow, thank you for your fast response.
I ran the MalwareBytes' and ran it under the mbam file as you said.
(I ran it under win file last night when I posted this and it found and removed 5 files)
Tonight, it did not find anything but my task bar continues to have over 60 processes running. That is not normal right? Most of them are .exe processes.

Here is the log fromt he Mbam scan:

Oh, one quick thing... notice I din't un-install and re-install malwarebytes', i downloaded it last night and ran the scan based on the instruction on Personal Antivirus removal..
Did you need me to un-install and re-install it under the mbam files instead? I just clicked on Mbam and extracted the files that way.
Also, I was doing dishes and didn't re-start the comp right away.. i went on Facebook and then remembered and frantically restarted about 1 hr later. (Hope that's ok)

Let me know if there is something else I can do, I had a blue-ish clolored window today pop-up saying something about my security status..??? I didn't look familiar to me so I closed it.. (Could that be the personal antivirus thing poping up on a different looking page???) If so, then the 5 files deleted yesterday did not get rid of it..

Wow.. I just went on and on and on.. Sorry but I want you to have all the information.

Thank you Mr. Angel of all of us less smart than you!!! I really appreciate you doing this for us the little brained people
Bow or Thanks

LOL!

Anyhow, if MBAM doesn't find anything, then you probably wont need to uninstall it as long as MBAM is functioning normally.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
    Link 2

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    Possible Win32 infection/Personal Antivirus combo?? CF_download_FF

    Possible Win32 infection/Personal Antivirus combo?? CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    Possible Win32 infection/Personal Antivirus combo?? Rcauto10

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    Possible Win32 infection/Personal Antivirus combo?? Whatne10

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u

Possible Win32 infection/Personal Antivirus combo?? CF_Cleanup

This will also reset your restore points.

How is the machine running now?

you know, its hard to say, it still has over 70 processes open when i look at the task bar, but the internet seemed to have improved a little.
I haven't been on that much but it does seem to get stuck less already...
I will run this and get to you.

Thank you so much!!!! You are the best!!!

Ok, not good, I went to do this and the ComboFix program was gone!!!
the super annoying AOL detected something earlier called Backdoor..something.. and suggested I block it so I did...

Went to dowload combofix again from your link and look at what happened:

McAfee has automatically blocked and removed a Trojan.

About this Trojan
Detected: Artemis!7E991BABFAC8 (Trojan), Artemis!7E991BABFAC8 (Trojan)
Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Jessy Ulloa\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GI7T2KDG\ComboFix[1].exe

Trojans appear as legitimate programs but can damage valuable files, disrupt performance, and allow unauthorized access to your computer.

Help.. Sad tearing

Update for you... after all this, I thought I checked my AOL spyware and thought I had blocked combofix so I unblocked the last threat (thinking it was combofix)
That's when I went to re-Install it and it cambe back with the warning.. I couldn't find it in the AOL box to block again so I ran another scan and it found something called Bifrost and on the description it said something about back door.. it also found 189 tracking cookies... blocked and deleted everything of course. But my task manager is still showing all these procesees.

Also, my computer seems to be starting up on safe mode always after the combofix run... is it going to stay that way???

Am I doing something wrong??? I think thing is getting in everything I install to get rid of it... it's smarter than all these cures....

Thanks for your help once again... i'm losing my faith. These crooks are everywhere now.. all over my computer.

Hello.
Mcafee hates Combofix, that's why it was detected in temp files. Combofix is made up of lots and lots of little bits to make one big gun, that's why it's so powerful and effective.

Go to Start > Run. Type in "msconfig" and hit enter.

DO NOT mess around with the following options without my instructions.

Now go to the boot.ini tab. Is "/safeboot" ticked? if so, untick it.

sorry i was MIA for a sec... lol. work stuff.

It wasn't checked. so i just exited out of there. I noticed today that it's going to the black screen when I re-start but it's not safe mode anymore it's just the black screen. The recovery box thing that the combofix installed is showing up above windows Xp on the black screen every time i turn the comp on.

I have to tell you that the AOL spyware program did something because after it deleted that back door thing I told you about It seems to have been running much much faster. What I wonder is, are all those active processes in the task bar (68 of them right now!!!) normal??

Thank you for your help again!!!

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt just yet.
