Hi

I had the System Security virus, which I appear to have managed to eradicate all traces of (I have searched for, and followed, instructions on how to do this via Internet). However, since then I have been having major problems in booting up my PC successfully. Main problem is that it takes forever to boot up and then basically explorer and all the programs are inoperable. Unable to boot into safe mode either. With the help of a windows boot cd downloaded free from Internet, I can now access safe mode and can connect to Internet. However, if I try to boot windows normally I get a blue screen with an error message on it advising that windows has been stopped to prevent damage to my pc. I managed to download hijackthis and have posted the log underneath. I would be grateful for any help that you could provide.

Thanks

Scott

Hello.

I see that you are running BitTornado.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    BitTornado 0.3.7
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 15.
  • Select the first option where it says "This release is Windows 7 support-ready and includes support for Internet Explorer 8...".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u15-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.

How is the machine running now?

Hi

One or two problems with the last! Firstly cannot uninstall programs as recommended as I am in safe mode. Tried to download Java update and although I got the exe file downloaded to desktop, the part, "Select the first option where it says "This release is Windows 7 support-ready and includes support for Internet Explorer 8...".

Click the "Download" button to the right.

In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue." didn`t quite go like that! However, I am certain that the file downloaded okay. Further problem is that I cannot install the update as machine says that windows installer will not operate in safe mode.

I don`t know if I said previously or not but I cannot access windows normally as there is the following STOP message: 0x0000007B (0xF789E640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Hello.
Also uninstall this: RegCure 1.5.0.1

Installed any new hardware recently? the error could also be caused by RegCure if you have used it in the past, registry cleaners can be dangerous.

Hi Regcure uninstalled. No I haven`t installed any hardware recently. Only major change was installation of Windows Serive Pack 3, but machine had been noticeably sluggish prior to that.
