When I shut down windows, the computer goes through the whole procedure only to turn itself back on again.the only way of turning it off is at the mains, which i dont like doing. mike

Even if none of this helps, you should try this to prevent any further problems. Make sure you have all of your Windows updates up to date, and also go to your manufature's website for updated drivers, firmware, and sometimes even BIOS.
