WinPC Antivirus automatically downloaded itself onto my computer. I keep getting pop-ups saying that I need to register. It won't let me go to almost all websites except this one. How do I remove it?

I see you have Viewpoint software installed.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Read this article: here and here

I suggest you remove the program now.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint Manager (remove only)
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar
Next, please download ViewpointKiller by Prm753 from here.
Save it to a permanent folder (such as C:\ViewpointKiller) and unzip it there.
Open ViewpointKiller, and press the Start button.
A log will be produced in the same folder where you unzipped it to. Please post the contents of that log in your reply.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local
    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! ¤u¨ã¦C - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn0\yt.dll

    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.trymedia.com (HKLM)
    O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

* Tools->Options->Main tab
* Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

Infected with WinPC Antivirus CF_download_FF

Infected with WinPC Antivirus CF_download_rename

3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
5. Close any open browsers.
6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***
  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

I disabled all of my anit-virus programs and even unistalled some.. but it will not let me uninstall my AVG Anti-virus program and the Combo-Fix prompt pops up and tells me that AVG Antivirus is still active but ComboFix will continue to run and says "this is at your own risk".. what should I do? Will it mess my computer up since I can't unistall it? Should I run it anyway?

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

File::
c:\windows\system32\mashtuic32.dll
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB6.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB5.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB4.tmp
c:\documents and settings\Compaq_Administrator\Application Data\LimeWire
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB3.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\tvDebug.zip

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:
Infected with WinPC Antivirus Sfxdaw

This will open combofix again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run.
It may want to reboot after it's done. (It will warn you if it wants to)
Post the resulting log back here.

Also, I was having a problem with it before.. how can I completely delete the AVG Antivirus program?? It wouldn't let me uninstall it and the combo fix keeps saying that it's running. Is it a good program to have or should I get something else?

descriptionInfected with WinPC Antivirus EmptyRe: Infected with WinPC Antivirus

AVG is a good anti-virus, you can keep it if you wish but if you want to uninstall it please use the following tool to fully remove it from your computer:

http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arm_sup_____.dir/avgremover.exe

Run it and follow the instructions

Keep in mind your system will be vulnerable to threats if you don't install a new Anti-Virus so I suggest installing Avira free anti-virus and update it:

http://www.free-av.com/

I see that you are running Limewire.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

If Limewire is not removed, then I won't help you.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

  • Limewire 4.18.8

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

File::
c:\documents and settings\Compaq_Administrator\Application Data\asd.bat
c:\documents and settings\Compaq_Administrator\Application Data\LimeWire

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:
Infected with WinPC Antivirus Sfxdaw

This will open combofix again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run.
It may want to reboot after it's done. (It will warn you if it wants to)
Post the resulting log back here.

It's running great! Thank you soo much! Ok, so I have ZoneAlarm, Avira Antivirus and Spybot S&D on my computer, I know security and antivirus programs are very important to have, I just don't know which ones I should have or which ones work the best. Any suggestions?

You are running two antivirus', I see you have ZoneAlarm installed, along with Avira. This is a bad idea as they can conflict and cause more problems. I would recommend that you remove either zone alarm or Avira. If zone alarm is a firewall then you cna keep it if not then you have to remove either Avira or Zone ALarm your choice.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. Goofy

1) Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
I also recommand the following add-ons for Firefox, they will help keep you safe from malicious scripts or activeX exploits.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

To help you keep your software updated, please considering using this free software program that will check for program updates.
Update Checker

5) Finally, consider maintaining a firewall. Some good free firewalls are Kerio, or
Outpost
A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

If you would take a moment to fill out our feedback form, we would appreciate it.
The link can be found here.

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. Big Grin
