Problem with Ethernet Controller

I connect to the internet for my laptop through an ethernet cable but my compooty wont recognize it. I was told to look in the hardware manager in the control panel for anything to do with ethernet that has a yellow "!" next to it. And I found that exact thing. So then I updated it. The only problem is is that the updating wizard thing couldn't find an update anywhere. So I was wondering if there is a site that I can go to to get the driver or whatever it is that I need.



By the way:
I'm on a Windows XP Home Edition Dell Inspiron 600m
Rolling back the update is not an option because I had to reinstall XP after a little issue I had.

I don't know which one to pick though, and I can't risk opening up my laptop. What shouuuuuuuuld I do?

Start >> My Computer >> Right click on Properties >> Systems Properties >> Hardware tab.

Click Device Manager >> in dialog screen, expand the Network Adapters device from the list.

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200 BG Network Connection is the only thing under the network part. I'm not sure if that's the card. The actual ethernet controller icon is under other devices, I don't think that it is installed on my computer yet but I might be wrong.

Okay, so i downloaded it, ran the program, it extracted it and then i went into the device manager, right clicked on the ethernet controller thing, did upgrade, then upgrade from specific location then i chose the place that it was extracted to (C/dell/R11blahblah/DRIVERS) and it gave me the same error message. what should i do know?

feck, so now, i was just looking, and the ethernet controller isnt anywhere on the device manager and, when i plug in an ethernet cord, my computer usually says LAN or something like that but no it wont say anything at all. (that was the original issue)

Does the internet work?

Try this: Start >> Control Panel >> Network Connections >> Right click your local area connection >> Properties >> uncheck the Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity option.

i guess it kinda doesnt really matter any more because my hard drive just went so im getting a new one with all tge necessary stuff so as far as i know i wont have this problem
