Hi. i've got another problem. recently went to someone's house to reformat his computer.
as usual. haha

I don't know why i just love reformating computers. haha

anyway, same as the subject, after reformating, the graphic driver is ati radeon
9200 i think and it's already there without me even installing it for the computer.

after that. installed the sound driver and all, all neccessary softwares like Microsoft office, windows media player 11, mozilla firefox 3 etc.

his computer's specs is running on a 3.0ghz intel p4. 1gb ram, 80gb hard disk space, dvd & Cd burner Drive, I'm not sure about the graphics.. i haven't check whether it's integrated or is it a card. anyone know how to find out without opening the computer?

so anyway. my real problem is.. even after reformating, besides playing games,
when using the computer normally, opening folders, surfing the net... most of the time... actually all the time it hangs for around 5-10 seconds before it continues to run normally.

each hanging interval is less than 5 mins.
i checked the amount of process running. for a fast computer which just reformated, it's not supposed to hang. there were very little process running. and the pf usage and ram usage isn't even more than half!

the internet speed is really fast. as soon as i click the internet browser, waiting a few seconds before the the window appears. i doubt the computer is supposed to load the window so long. and besides the hanging problem everytime i use the internet browsers, as soon as i typed in a url, it appears immediately.

The computer's running on SUPERAntispyware Professional, Spybot Search & destroy 1.6, Avast antivirus Lifetime subscription. and it's windows xp sp2.

This problem occurs during internet surfing, opening folders(any folder), opening start menu, going to "My Computer" etc. only games aren't affected.

anyone could help me out in these weird slow problems? or tell me what's exactly wrong?
thanks alot!

Possible its a rouge third party software install thats causing you issues.

You need to establish if this occurs immediately after a format and clean install of windows 'barebones'.......ie without installing any other softs!

HEY. thanks for replying. been waiting a long time.. zzz
well. the problem has already started ever since i reformated it.
without installing anything. jus that it's not that obvious. once in installed more things on the computer. the problem became more obvious.

Have you installed any folder locking software?
I had this problem once when I installed Folder Lock.
You should also check if there is a confilct between any of the security programs. Try disabling (or removing) one of them and see if something changes.
Hope this helps.

hmm. thanks for the advice. but i'm quite sure there's nothing wrong with the security programs. i've been using them on my computer too and nothing has happened so far.

and also, it's not my computer so i wouldn't install softwares such as folder lock or anything similar.

Are you using more than one antivirus app or firewall?

You say that you have 'reformatted'.......did you format the drive/partition correctly before installing windows again?

yes. i have. i chose the NTFS format. WITHOUT the (quick format).
which is much slower than the one WITH the (quick format)

I'm very sure i've reformated correctly.

The computer's using Avast antivirus Pro, Spyware Search & destroy 1.6,
SUPERantispyware Pro.

mmmm....ok thats strange!

I would need you to format and clean install again (providing all the good data is protected) and this time do not install any antivirus or spyware software....just give me the barebones of the OS and then post a HiJackThis.log here for me to take a look at.

Not sure where you got your security software from, but i fear that one of these programs may be causing your issues!

Do not install any other software either for now!

Its just that your last comment worries me somewhat....
once in installed more things on the computer. the problem became more obvious.

My guess is that one of the third party security apps your installing is bad!

hmmm. okay. thanks alot digitalocksmith.
the thing is, it's my friend's computer. i cant keep on reformating his computer. and furthermore, even if i use the hijackthis.log, i can't leave his computer empty while waiting for a reply from u or anyone from this forum.
the computer is after all shared by his whole family.

but then i use the exact same software as that friend of mine. his computer's much better than mine but why does he get problems that i don't?

Thats the milllion dollar question.......no two computers are ever the same!

Remember that hardware and software are unrelated in performance statistics!

He might have a soft installed that you dont, be it an app, a codec or even a driver....know what i mean?

The only comparison we can make is a barebones windows install!

Sadly, its a long process of elimination.
