Hello, like an idiot I allowed mcafee to grant access to two programs, the reddish thing popped up with scvhost.exe which I allowed since I've seen it alot before, and something to which's name I don't remember, began with aaci something or other... I plugged its name into google and nothing came up so I said okay whatever and let it in too.

My computer restarted for some reason, I got a windows error upon reboot, and something keeps popping up telling me to enable access to sinowal.trojan removal. Firefox has a different load screen saying something about virus risk and crashes repeatedly. Internet explorer won't even work. I feel like a fool.

I logged off and logged onto my mothers account and her settings appear to work just fine. Here is my hijackthis log:

Hello.
Nothing obvious showing in the log.
Please disable McAfee script blocking, McAfee doesn't like combofix.

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - combofix.exe
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
    ***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

    **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    I have sinowal.trojan Rcauto10

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    I have sinowal.trojan Whatne10

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
    Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

I went back to my account and I still receive the message of virus infection when I open internet browsers and shortly afterward the windows security thing warning of sinowal.trojan popped up again. Do I have to run this entire process on the other account?

descriptionI have sinowal.trojan EmptyRe: I have sinowal.trojan

Maybe, we'll see.
What account was combofix run from?

I want to see the result of this.

Download GMER's MBR.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the MBR.exe file to run it. A log will be produced, MBR.log.
Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.

I ran both hijackthis and combofix from this account. Here is the mbr log:

Lets see what this will do.
Start > Run
Type this in:
mbr.exe -f
Note the space after e and before -
It will produce a new log, please post the log.

I typed it exactly as requested and it said "Windows cannot find 'mbr.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again."

This is strange considering mbr.exe is sitting exactly on the desktop right now.

Right click it and select "Cut"
Press Start > open "My Computer"
Open the C drive > Windows > System32 > Right click anywhere and select "Paste"

Now try re-running the command.

Okay, I don't think the MBR is infected.
Not quite sure why your still getting alerts.

I'm curious about one file.
Find this file in bold.
c:\windows\wininit.ini
Open it with Notepad, copy and paste everything inside it back here.

wininit.ini contains the following:

c:\tempjunk3703.tmp=C:\WINDOWS\wt\webdriver.dll
nul=c:\tempjunk5065.tmp
c:\tempjunk5065.tmp=C:\WINDOWS\wt\data.wts

To see if anything is different, I quickly went back to my account and ran hijackthis. Here is the log from my account, not sure if its different from the log of this current account:

I deleted wininit.ini, but I was unable to locate windows/wt. I searched around and I've been running spybot periodically so maybe it knocked it out. Either way I restarted and wininit.ini and windows/wt are both no longer anywhere to be found, but the alert plus browser crash and security warning on the trojan still appear on account 1 of 3.

Okay, I will think about this during the night and will try and be back tomorrow afternoon with an answer, but for now, try this.

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please make sure Teatimer is disable before we do this, otherwise this fix will fail.

  • Now open a new notepad file.
  • Input this into the notepad file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
    "AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000000
    "FirewallDisableNotify"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\McAfeeAntiVirus]
    "DisableMonitoring"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\McAfeeFirewall]
    "DisableMonitoring"=dword:00000000

  • Save this as fix.reg, save it to your desktop.
  • Double click fix.reg to run it.
  • Select yes to the registry merge prompt.

Please re-enable TeaTimer.

There's the problem.

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

File::
c:\documents and settings\Derrick\Application Data\Google\ggqjh22510678.exe

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"vidxhp"=-

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:
I have sinowal.trojan Sfxdaw

This will open combofix.exe again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run, it may want to reboot after it's done. Post the resulting log back here.

No more alerts in browsers, no more sinowal.trojan warnings, things appear to be stable for the time being. Thank you for your help, I will be cautious for a while though. Is there anything else I can download that you would reccommend that would better protect against the trojan? I also don't suppose you can troubleshoot my xbox360 that just died minutes ago :tounge:

Hello. I will recommend some free protection software soon, because we need to update Java.
And no, no idea about Xbox, don't have one, don't want one.

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11.
  • Select the first option where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    - Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
Please make sure the new version of Java is installed before you run JavaRa.

Please download JavaRa from here

  • First, unzip it.
  • Then run JavaRa.
  • Select English from the drop down menu and press Select.
  • This will open JavaRa.
  • Press Remove older versions
  • Press yes to the prompt.
  • It will make a log file of what it's removed.
  • Copy and paste the log back here.
