How to Create Restore Points in Windows 10

You should always capture restore points right before you change anything such as installing a new program. That way if the latest changes to your computer somehow foul it up completely, you can go back to a restore point right before you made any changes.

To create a restore point, follow these steps:

1. Click in the Search text box in the Taskbar and type restore point. A menu appears, listing Create a restore point as an option.

2. Click Create a restore point in the menu. A System Properties dialog box appears.

3. Click the Configure button. A Restore Settings window appears.

4. Make sure the Turn on system protection radio button is selected and then click the OK button.

5. Click the Create button. A System Protection dialog box appears, asking for a descriptive name for your restore point.

6. Type a descriptive name for your restore point such as a date, and click the Create button. A dialog box appears to let you know when the creation of the restore point is done.

7. Click the Close button to make this dialog box disappear.

Restoring a Restore Point

Once you’ve created at least one restore point, you can always return back to that restore point at any time. Just remember that any changes you might have made since creating that restore point , such as installing new programs, will be wiped out.

To return to a restore point, follow these steps:

1. Click in the Search text box in the Taskbar and type restore point. A menu appears, listing Create a restore point as an option.

2. Click Create a restore point in the menu. A System Properties dialog box appears.

3. Click the System Restore button. A System Restore windows appears.

4. Click the Next button. Another window appears, listing all your saved restore points.

5. Click a restore point and click the Next button. A confirmation window appears.

6. Click the Finish button.
