OpenDNS has a monster DNS cache, and DNS servers located around the globe, so you may be able to retrieve IP addresses from it more quickly than from the default DNS servers your ISP points to.  You get all kinds of other benefits, such as automatically fixing URLs typos for you; for example, type http://www.yahoo.cmo into your address bar, and you’ll be sent to http://www.yahoo.com, instead of getting a page error. You will also get antiphishing protection.

You don’t need to visit the OpenDNS Web site to use its service. To use OpenDNS servers in Windows Vista and later versions of Windows OS follow below instructions.



How to change your default DNS to OpenDNS

1. Open Control Panel  --> Network and Sharing Center.

2. On the left pane of Network and Sharing Center click Change adapter settings.

3. Right click the network connection that you want to configure to use OpenDNS.

4. Select Properties from context menu.

5. Now click on Networking tab and there under "This connection uses the following items" select the option Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click on Properties button.

6. From "General" tab choose the radio button Use the following DNS server addresses.  Now there fill the value of OpenDNS  servers IP addresses that is 208.67.222.222 and  208.67.220.220 and then simply click on “OK” button.

In Windows XP, select Control Panel --> Network and Internet Connections -->Network Connections, right-click your network connection from the Network Connections window, and select Properties. From the network connection dialog box that appears, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. The screen you’ll see will be the same as the one in Windows Vista. Follow the same directions as for Windows Vista.

That’s it! you are done, You are now surfing the Internet using OpenDNS servers. You should observe the speed for a few days and if you are not satisfied you can always revert back to the ISP provided DNS servers by selecting Obtain DNS server address automatically.
