Can't connect to the internet

After about 2 months of back an forth with a computer issue it was advised that I clear everything out of the computer. Since then I can't connect to the internet. When I check connections it tells me an Ethernet cable is broken, or a loose connection. I checked everything and replaced the cable. Still no internet.

Have you tried uninstalling and installing network card driver?

Right away you want tot get technical.....lol I have no idea what that is.

You can download the network card driver from your computer manufacture website or from your motherboard manufacturer website.

The driver doesn't come up on the Gateway site in a search. How do I find out the Motherboard manufacturer?

Can you please give me your computer module number and brand name.

Try connecting Ethernet cable to different port on the computer and router. Try different Ethernet cable.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

Flush DNS
Report IE Proxy Settings
Reset IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
Reset FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

I think I'll just give up. I don't understand how I can do all these things to a computer I can't connect to.

You don't have working computer where you can download the MiniToolBox?

Yes and it ran a scan on the good computer

Download the MiniToolBox and copy it to storage media and run the MiniToolBox on computer that is having the network problem.

If I may chime in folks  

There is more than one model of Gateway sx2110 does yours have an onboard wireless device and are you using a wireless router.

After you started afresh did you install the chipset drivers for the motherboard.

Your computer may have both options and fwiw my notebook tells me that a cable is unplugged when I am connected by wi-fi.

If MiniToolbox did not resolve the issue can you let us know about the chipset drivers.

The good computer is wireless, the bad one is hooked up by Broadband. I don't know anything about chipset drivers for the motherboard.

The problem seems to be in the router. I ran the Ethernet cable directly from the modem to the computer and I get internet

Apparently I need to reinstall windows. The computer came with windows 8 and I don't have an installation disc. How do I get windows back in and what version?

Why do you need to reinstall Windows OS?
