This may sound a bit odd but I am curious. I upgraded my laptop to windows 10 and it was running horribly slow. I have next to nothing on it as well so it made no sense why it would run that badly. I figured what the heck, and wiped Windows off the laptop and put on Linux. At first, it ran like it was brand new. It was nice. But after about a month or so, it slowed back down again. It has trouble running skype. If I have skype going now, I can hardly do anything else on it without it taking forever to open or work, even opening settings folders and such. Can this be caused by malware or is it just time to bury my laptop? It is from 2012.

Malware designed to attack Linux machines is becoming more and more prevalent as Linux distributions become more popular. It might be worth running Sophos' Free Linux Malware Scanner to see if it find anything.
