Yeah... I did everything you said to do.  It seemed to work, it self-deleted and everything.

Edit: Although, I did all that in safe mode. Should I have done it normal mode? I can re-download the file in safe mode and then switch over to normal to actually run it

It means you're connected. What kind of message do you get when you try your browser?

This is what Chrome has: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 Interneterror_zpsnrtiu0hv

Just replace "www.google.ca" with whatever other site because they all have the exact same error.

In IE 64 bit, it just has a "Cannot display this page" error with no specific details. Firefox was constantly crashing upon trying to run the browser, doing that "Firefox has encountered an error" thing, and wouldn't even open a browser window. I uninstalled FF a few days ago, thinking that maybe it was causing the error, but nope.

So, having issues with this program. It runs just fine for an hour or so, and then this happens:

Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 Esetscan_zpsvcbylhad

And its all frozen up and won't go any farther. It did that the first time so I closed it out and restarted it, but it did it again the second time. I'm trying a third time now to see exactly when it happens (staying nearby, last time I was in a different room while it scanned) but I'm going to give up if it happens again

Strange. It did the same thing to me. Let's try this one.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives

5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
9. Please post this log in your next reply.

Okay, I got Kaspersky Security Scan running. In settings though, there wasn't any place I could see to check off those boxes (I didn't see those options at all), just "run deep scan" so I clicked that.

There also isnt "my computer" under scan, just "My Kaspersky" :S

Please download Farbar Service Scanner to the desktop and run it on the computer with the issue.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Make sure FRST is run under administrator privileges.
Make sure that the Whitelist section is checked.Otherwise, the log will be very long.
You Security programs may prevent the tool from running. If this happens, disable the security program until the scan is completed.

  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

  • Press "Scan".

Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 FRSTicon

Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 FRSTconsole-1

  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

AS: Windows Defender (Disabled - Up to date) {D68DDC3A-831F-4fae-9E44-DA132C1ACF46}
AS: Spybot - Search and Destroy (Enabled - Out of date)
You should turn on Windows Defender. It is free protection. Search and Destroy is obsolete and should be removed.

Internet Explorer's security is based upon a set of zones. Each zone has different security in terms of what scripts and applications can be run from a site that is in that zone. There is a security zone called the Trusted Zone. This zone has the lowest security and allows scripts and applications from sites in this zone to run without your knowledge. It is therefore a popular setting for malware sites to use so that future infections can be easily done on your computer without your knowledge as these sites will be in the Trusted Zone. Therefore, I recommend that nothing be allowed in the trusted zone. If you agree, please do the following.
In Internet Explores select Tools, Internet Options, Security Tab and select Trusted Zones and select Sites. You can remove each trusted zone there.

Okay, Windows Defender wouldn't let me turn it back on but I figured out how, so its back on now. I also uninstalled Spybot S&D.

I also changed those things in IE.

Now what? Smile...

I'm stumped. We cleared the host files and the Trusted zones. One log shows that it is connected but I don't understand why it won't work in Normal Mode. It could have something to do with that problem of something sticking up into the computer.

Could wiping the computer/resetting it to defaults help? Could a driver or something not showing up be affecting it?

So, I've just made an incredibly weird discovery. Internet works in Chrome (in normal mode!!) if I Run as Administrator. I don't get it.

And services needing the internet don't work still, like Yahoo Messenger. I guess because its not run as admin?

Any ideas why that would be, and what could fix it?

I noticed that in the FBR scan.

I've run out of ideas. The problem may be with the accounts. You should try to get that sorted out.

Ok, it shows the adm account is disabled. Could try creating a new guest account to see if it disabled or enabled. You can alway delete the guest account later.

Okay so I managed to find and reactivate the disabled Administrator account. But now I have no idea what to do. When I go into manage accounts on the Admin account, there's nothing about internet settings on my other account. I would just use the admin account but all my docs/pics/other stuff is on the Dani account...

descriptionInternet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 EmptyRe: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem?

Ok, the Dani account is the Adm. account and it is now enabled. I just thought that this was the reason why your internet was not working. I've run out of ideas.

Alright. At this point I'm saving everything onto an external hard drive in preparation to wipe the damn laptop and hope that fixes any messed up settings. Do you think I should do that?

Also how exactly do I restore to factory settings? Its been a while since I wiped anything.

descriptionInternet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 EmptyRe: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem?

Do you have the Windows 7 disk(s)? If not, do you have recovery disks? If not, you must have the Recovery on a separate drive on your computer. Look for the D drive. Before you do anything else you should get that problem you had with something sticking up inside the bottom of the laptop looked at.

descriptionInternet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 EmptyRe: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem?

more_horiz
There's no longer anything there.  I removed the piece that was sticking up and there was no damage underneath, thankfully.

I don't have the discs, I was never given any when I bought my laptop.

descriptionInternet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 EmptyRe: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem?

more_horiz
In that case the Recovery must be on your hard drive in a separate partition probably D:

descriptionInternet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 EmptyRe: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem?

more_horiz
So, I can't find a recovery partition.  My D: drive doesn't have one.  When I attempt the "Repair Your Computer" on the F8 boot screen, there doesn't seem to be any kind of option for me to restore to factory settings.  The "recover an image" part keeps asking for a backup disc or to find an image from the server, but I don't know what that means.  When I wiped my desktop a while back it had a partition

Edit: Nevermind, Lenovo has a built in recovery program thing. Trying it now.

descriptionInternet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 1 EmptyRe: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem?

So, I successfully restored the laptop to factory state, and everything seems to be working again. I have no idea what was wrong. o_O
